Are any of you tall with freakishly small kids? Short with off-the-charters? Has your pedi said anything about it?
According to my home measurements (both standing and on his back), C is only 29" and has dropped to the 10th percentile. DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'9". When do I start to worry? He has massive feet, which I'm hoping is an indicator of future height.
We have a few weeks before his 15 month visit, so I'm asking Dr. Probie.
My husband is 6'4 and I'm 5'8. All 3 kids are pretty average right now. However, my MIL says that DH was one of the shortest kids in his class until he was in high school/collge and shot up to 6'4. He was just a late bloomer. I wouldn't be surprised if my kids are the same.

I'm 5'6" which I guess is average, right? My kids are WHOA! tall. But I was also tall as a youngster. Always in the back of school pictures and such. And FIL/BIL are very tall.

Both DH and SS were late bloomers. SS was one of the shortest kids in his class until he finally hit a growth spurt around 16. He was 6' by graduation and continued to grow another 1"+ over the next couple years and didn't stop growing until he was almost 20. I'm guessing DS will be the same as he's a shorty now, but both DH and I are average.

Yeah, I'm 5'4", but I was always one if the tallest in the class until 6th grade when I stopped growing and everyone passed me.

I think Micah was 31" at his 15 month check, and she said his projected height (based on his current curve, not measurement) was 5'10", which she was slightly surprised with. I'm 5'7", and MH is 6'. She thought he would be closer to the 6' range. Obviously it can all change, and she said she wouldn't be surprised if he had a late growth spurt in life.

I think it's weird your ped told you that. They can always have growth spurts or change their curve. Parents have enough shit to think about, I don't think you should have to think about his adult height now!

I wouldn't worry yet. My H's family is all tall (minus my poor H!) and his sister was very short until highschool. She wasn't even on the charts for her entire childhood and now she's 5'9 which is moderately tall for a woman.
Macy is tiny, she's in the 15th percentile for height and weight. H and I are average size, I am 5'7" and he's 5'10". My family however is very short, my mom, grandma and all my aunts/uncles/cousins are only about 5'0" or 5'1" on my mom's side. My dad's is slightly taller but not much. I think she's going to take after them. Her pedi keeps saying well she's not going to be the center on the basketball team!! every.single.appt. OK we get it she's short!
I'm 5'6" and DH is 5'9" (or 5'10" according to him). Caleb is incredibly tall. He hasn't had his appointment yet, but I'm guessing it's going to be another chart topper. I have tall people in my family, though so it's not a huge surprise.
Our builds are also on the sturdier side, but Abby's really skinny. Not just in weight but more in build. No idea where she got that from!

Sounds a bit like Patrick. He was 4'9 and then grew to 5'10 his junior year of HS. I was the kid that was "tall" and then stopped growing at 12.
Yes! I am 5'9" and the shortest in my family (my dad is 6'5", my sister 6 even). DH is 6'1" and all the men I'm his family are over 6'0". Henry has always stayed pretty steady at 97% for height and 75% for weight.
elliot is a peanut in comparison. He hasn't been above 40% for height yet, and generally is omewhere in the low 30s....I know that in the grand scheme of things he isn't that small, but compared to the rest of the family he really is. I worry about it a little - especially him being a boy, i don't want him to be the only short one in the family.
i have asked the pedi and she says there is just no way to know until he goes through puberty. He may be short, he may be tall. Since he has been consistent with his growth curve she isn't concerned.
We have the opposite problem. DH and I aren't super tall, and Camden is freakisly tall. I'm sure he'll level out, but for right now... I always get comments (when we're not with DH) 'He's so tall!! Your husband must be really tall, huh?" Uh, no. He's 5'11... I'm 5'6. Both average. But we have a giant. Although, I was realllllly tall growing up, always the tallest in my class, so thats probably where he gets it. I averaged out in HS and now I'm shorter than some woman I know.
DH is only 5'7 (he's the tallest of his family), I'm 5'6 and the shortest of my siblings. My kids obviously take after my father's side of the family. DS is over 41" at 3, DD is 33" at 15 months. Yeah, they are tall.
Fact: He's the youngest, newest member of his preschool class and he's within the top 1/3 at line up when they line up by height (tallest to shortest). There are 5 year olds in his class.
My son dropped in his growth curve from 65%+ to less than 15% by two years old. I switched doctors and got some panels run and her had an undiagnosed milk allergy and a wheat intolerance. He's been eating much more since that was cleared up and seems to have gotten taller (compared to his little friends). We'll see at his 3 year appt in October, but I hope there was no lasting damage. I'm 5'8" and H is 6'1". Not saying at all that this is the case with your son, but that was my biggest concern that was brushed off because he has always been healthy and active.

I'm the same as AndyCohen except I'm 5'3. The pedi predicted I'd be 5'7. ha.

Thanks for the info. C is super healthy and active, but he keeps falling down the growth charts. He's really strong - he just spent the morning wrestling a friend who's about five pounds heavier and several inches taller - but so compact.
It's interesting to read all of these.
I'm short for my dad's family (all over 6'), and my mom's family is average/tall except for my mom, who was only 4'11". She had a bunch of spinal issues, though, and my grandmother thinks that stunted her growth.

I'm 4'11 and dh is 6'2" so our kids are a crapshoot lol. Ds has always been 98-99th percentile in height. Dd started at 80 some I think and had dropped to 50th at her 12m. I'm dying to see what she is at her 15 because I don't feel like she's grown!! I have a feeling she's going to end up a shortie.
