I've been dragging my feet on getting an area rug for the livingroom and I just have to do it! We want something 8 x 10 under $500 that is not scratchy. I can't find one in any stores around here so I have to buy online. This is a nylon one that I think might work well, but it's really bright. We don't have much color in our livingroom so it's not going to clash with anything, but is it too bright? I figure with a baby it's ok to be a little out there. There are other patterns I prefer, but they are wool and I'm worried they'll be scratchy.
What do my probies think? Yay or Nay?
Here is my livingroom currently, I figure the colors might tie in with the spines on the bookshelves?:
I'm glad you shared this because Target has a knockoff of the Room & Board rug, but all the reviews say it sheds like crazy and I was very tempted to just say "screw it!" and go with the sheddy rug to have my vision. I don't think I will now. I got a wool rug for Audrey's room online and it is very scratch and rough! Charles likes to sit on the floor so I worry about getting a wool rug online and it coming and being scratchy.

Yea, never again with a shedding rug. I don't think ours is scratchy which is why we liked it but it sheds SO MUCH. I vacuum every single day and the vacuum is always full of rug. I don't even understand how the rug still exists with the amount it has shed.

I like it. For $500 and the size it's reasonably enough priced that you won't feel like you have to keep it for as long as you would the R&B rug. I gave away my beloved WE rug when H was born because I did not want her eating the fuzz. We went with a banded gigantic piece of carpeting we had made at Lowes and now it looks terrible. It is so thrashed. We need to get another one because it is the only reasonable way to cover as much space as we need. Eventually we will have a decorative rug again.

I like the rug. But I must ask, how in the world do you keep Audrey from pulling ALL of those books off of the shelves? We had to get glass doors on our bookshelves. L would have a field day with all of those books...so tempting!

She goes after two of the shelves occasionally, but I almost always carry her away so she's given up now. She pulls out the DVDs under the tv daily, but I'm fine with that because she can't hurt them and it occupies her for a good 20 min minimum and only takes me a few minutes to put back.

Ours from Pottery Barn is like this, too. It came with a little sheet that said it could do this for up to a hear because it is an authentic Persian rug. Maybe yours is too? How long have you had it? AndyCohen- I think the rug will look good in the room but I prefer a more muted look.
