I'm interested to hear too because my MD said to take 1,000IU but my accupuncturist recommends taking 10,000 IU. My levels are *really* low though- 13. 50-100 was the normal range. They say everyone in the PacNW is mildly deficient but mine are extreme.
I just found out last week I am low (28) and ordered the micellized vitamin D from numedica because it is supposed to be more absorbable than some other forms.
There is D2 and D3... D3 is the right one you want to take. I take a total of 2,000IU per day because mine was low. 10,000 sounds crazy?! BUT it's water soluble, so you'll pee out any extra anyways.

My sister was ridonkulously low and her dr had to prescribe her some horse pill to take for a couple of months. Then she went on a normal person dose. I'm not low, but take it JIC along with my calcium because I'm TERRIFIED of losing calcium, and with my depo and my aciphex, I've been pretty much told that I'm losing all of mine. I hope you get your levels straightened out. I know when my sister stops taking hers (because she doesn't think she "needs" it since its just a vitamin), she turns into a crazy/sleepy whack job.
I take d3, 2000ius per day. This was sufficient to bring me into the normal range (over several months) from an 8. I'm just using the target brand currently.
Oh T, I hate hearing you are in pain. Good for you for pushing. I hope they have an answer soon and it isn't something serious. As you know I know, the wait is the worst while they figure it out. I'm sending HUGE HUGS...HUGE!
