I usually hang out on MM, but since this is all house related, I figured I should probably post here.
We're finally buying a master bedroom set (been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for a year). Our style is jokingly referred to as garage sale chic. We both tend to like antiques and darker wood. Light pine is not my style. We will be getting a bed, two nightstands, plus dresser and/or chest. What do you think of these? They are all close in price.
#1: Bayfield by Aspenhome. DH dislikes this because he thinks it looks "country". I LOVE distressed wood and love this set. In person, it is very solid appearing but I admit is more at home in Colorado. www.aspenhome.net/catalog/pdfCats/Bayfield_BR.pdf
#2: Richmond by Aspenhome. DH leans towards this. I like it a lot, but prefer a darker wood (only available in this color). The first and last page are best representative of the color. It is not flat like the middle pictures. www.aspenhome.net/catalog/pdfCats/Richmond_BR.pdf
I didn't vote above because I'm a troublemaker. Based on your descriptions, I think you should go with the second set. However, I like set 1 better; I'd call it less country and more rustic.
I love the 4th one, and it seems like a good compromise unless you really need the storage space. It's a nice set without being too matchy-matchy (straight lines and curves, chunky square legs on bed/dresser and turned legs on the end tables), and neither of you dislike the set itself.
The footboard storage looks as if it would become dated quickly. Sort of like my mother's mid-century bookcase headboard and the wretched bed/wall unit DH had as his premarital workbench.
The granite surfaces scream kitchen/bath to me. And the knobs on that chest don't seem substantial enough for the piece and materials.

I promise you won't offend me. We are annoyed because neither of us found a set we are in LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV with.
And I agree with another poster about the granite. Having a granite topped sideboard is fine. On a bedroom dresser, though? #3 is probably out. I just need to drag DH to see them in person. The problem is that the showrooms are at least an hour each way (not accounting for DC traffic).

I vote #4 personally, but from your descriptions, I think #2 is closer to what you actually want.
Are you truly set on a "set"? Sometimes I feel like a bedroom set can look too matchy matchy, especially if a bedroom is small. Can you PIP the space its going into?
I don't have any online pics of the master bedroom. It is basically 16.5 x 16.5ft square with medium gray carpet. White paint. Bathroom is black/white and quite clean/stark looking. Two opposite walls are empty/plain. Side walls are either a large picture window or two doors leading to closet/bathroom.
#2, #3, and #4 are similar in color, but truly are not in any other way similar. The shades of brown and finishes are quite different. I can imagine getting the bed from one and then the dressers from another. But honestly, I've been living with craigslist harlequin sets for so long, I actually want a SET that matches itself.
