...and one of my club members was hit by a car on his bike this morning.
He is ok, but pretty bruised. I don't know how his bike is (or whether he was on his tri bike or his road bike at the time) yet. No idea what this will mean for him doing an IM in 11 days. I can't even contemplate how frustrated, angry, everything, I would feel in his position. You pour so much into it for so long, someone is careless and clips you with a car, and it can all go away in an instant.
One of my other club members was hit on St. Patrick's Day this year and was out for 6 weeks with broken ribs, etc. Yet another was run off the road during a race on Sunday.
This is so frustrating to me. It feels like no amount of care is stopping this from happening, and it makes me nervous being out there. Ugh.
Yikes! I'm probably doing my next 100 mike ride by myself. My worst fear is getting hit along the way. Thankfully, I live in a pretty bike friendly area, but sometimes it doesn't matter. Hope your friend recovers quickly!

Yikes! I had a teammate fall off her bike (she wasn't hit by a car) a week before IMTX and she broke her wrist. I can't imagine putting in all the work and not being able to race. Hope he is ok!

I had a couple of friends get hurt right before IMTX as well - I told hubs if I ever did IM, two weeks before, it was all treadmill and trainer for me.
Looks like no IM for him. He wound up back in the ER tonight, because he was repeating himself and had no clue he was doing it. His wife was totally freaked out, packed him up and off they went back to the hospital. The doctors say no bueno, too much brain swelling. He also has a broken bone in his hand.

Oh shit! My friend fell off her bike a few weeks ago. We were just going to call her husband to pick her up, but then she started repeating herself too, off to the ER we went. She is fine now and back to training.
I hope your friends heals fast. What a bummer for him.
I don't know yet... I'm not sure whether the driver even stopped or not. His wife's been so preoccupied with doctors today that I haven't heard the whole story. I desperately hope so. Both because he m'er effing should get one, and also because I want that driver's insurance to be on the hook for whatever's wrong with my friend and his bike.

Oh boy. I hope he heals quickly! Brain injuries are scary.
So scary! Sending good thoughts his way for a quick recovery!
I don't understand how this kind of thing happens. I mean, I do, but I don't. I walk and drive down a road where bikers are always riding, it's a pretty curvy road too. But, as a driver, I'm always aware while I go around corners, or slow down and move into the next lane when possible for a biker.
People need to slow down and just pay attention. It makes me nervous to just walk down the road on my own two feet.
