ETA: I keed, I keed! Ditto the above and I'd add no lingering on stretching mats. This is actually the worst at my gym because the women finish a class, go to the stretching mats in the weight area, and then just sit there and talk for ages.

Basic "be aware of others around you"
If you think no one is using something (like the squat rack) and there are weights on it, walk up like you're going to use it, and look around. If someone is still using it, they will be watching it like a hawk, and will let you know. If someone just forgot/didn't re-rack weights, you are free to use the machine.
Don't "spread out" in the locker room. Try to keep as much in the locker as possible.
:-( <--- This is me crying from laughing. I'm still giggling that people were actually using that word over and over. Lmao.
OP, just as other's said, general awareness for others will do you just fine. Rerack your weights, don't hover, no heavy perfume, don't leave your stuff all over the place, wipe your machines, no loud talking, don't blast your headphones, etc.

My gym has little clipboards where you can sign up for equipment. Always check to make sure someone hasn't already signed up for it and sign in for how long you will be using it. Stick to the limits especially during busy times. Don't talk on your cellphone.
There are people who sit and yap on their cell phones while on the treadmill. Drives me nuts. They're probably the same people who can't say hello to a cashier at the store cause they are too busy yapping, too.
Also, don't get on equipment next to a friend and proceed to talk the entire time -- I mean, you might as well just be on a cell phone!
Even if you're both working fairly hard? Some days I'll get on a treadmill next to someone I know and chat for the majority of our run. We're both running fairly hard/fast/adding hills but we're chatting. We're not talking loudly. Is this still annoying? It really helps the time pass. Never occurred to me this would be annoying.
We're there during the morning when the gym is not crowded at all.
