If we hadn't had K yet, I might go depending on the timing and the location.
Now that we do have K, I wouldn't. Not because I fear for my safety, but because he's only four months old, it's freaking hot up here right now and he's super fussy if we throw off his schedule.
I don't even take him to the zoo yet (@theycalledherkate)
But I support the rallies in spirit, if not in person.
No. Not my thing. We actually closed my office early Monday because there was a rally in the center of the city and they were afraid it would a) cause a ton of traffic and b) start a riot
There was one in my city yesterday and a coworker along with her toddler and mother were on their way to the hospital because her kid is having major complications from staph. The protestors blocked the entire highway and they couldn't get past to get to the hospital. The mother got out of the car and asked if they could please let them through as they had a child that needed to be brought to the hospital. They refused to let them through and one of the protestors ended up assaulting the mother and punched her in the face. I'm sure the mother wasn't pleased by them not letting her through and I'm sure harsh words were exchanged but I don't think I'll be going to any rallies any time soon.

was this in Houston? I would have lost it if I needed to get to the hospital and couldn't.

No. I'd fear for my safety. What has happened in Oakland is terrible. Granted Oakland is not my town, but close enough. Plus the people 'rallying' are miscreants who are using the Trayvon Martin verdict as an excuse to cause trouble.

There have been numerous peaceful, non-roadblocking rallies.
I would want to go but I don't believe such a rally would happen in my area. I live in a very conservative area full of right wings. It's not easy being a liberal atheist around here. I tend to keep my mouth shut mostly.

No. First, rallies aren't my thing. Second, based on what I've read and the fact that I wasn't in the courtroom with the jurors, my current position is that both parties were at fault, and the real issue is the stand your ground law. I might not like it, but if that's the law then the jurors had to consider that when returning a verdict. What we should be doing is examining and changing the law, not rallying for/against a verdict that followed what was the law at the time it was handed down.

No. Rallies aren't my thing, and people are crazy. I'm not about to get in the middle of a bunch of riled up, pissed off people. Nope, i'll watch from the safety of my own home.

No way would I go. The whole thing with 288 really pissed me off. They freaking wheeled a casket along with their "rally". Then they stormed the City Council meeting, I think it was yesterday. It was not peaceful as they claimed it was and people got hurt. NOW, they are planning on holding a rally in one of the affluent neighborhoods here this weekend. I get the anger at the verdict but I wasn't in the court room so I didn't see all of the evidence. The jurors did what the law allowed whether we like it or not.

How the FUCK was this in any way Trayvon Martin's fault?
