It was our last beginner class at the velodrome and we got to do kierens (a style of racing where you are paced up to speed by a motorcycle for a specific amount of laps, then released to race.)
So, me, who has problems coming within five bike lengths of my friends on the road had no problem getting close enough to the motorcycle to practically touch it. It was awesome!
Coach paced us up to 28mph then we raced two laps. It was a mixed team of ladies and the big boys (the "A team" boys did their own race) and I placed second!
I think I'm going to start working with Coach to incorporate track cycling into my tri training so I can maybe compete in the fall season out at the veldodrome. It's so amazing and I can't believe that someone like me, such a nervous Nelly on a road bike, can be so comfortable on a fixed gear bike with no brakes!
