Our annual fly invasion started this week, so I am going to be cleaning everything and then sealing the spots where we think they're entering the house.
Then I'll be hanging out with the kids watching monster movies (they love godzilla, just like me!), doing laundry, and making up my single income budget.
I am supposed to go downtown to see a band play tonight, but it's gross outside and it's supposed to storm so I don't think I am going to go.
Yep. Around this time in the summer, we get flies showing up in our house--we kill them, clean everything, and look for the spots where they may come in (our house is old and has wood shake shingles under our siding and no insulation--it's not that hard for them to get in). Then we spray the crap out of things.
It used to be wasps.
Our neighbor has a large dog (and watches other dogs), she lets them out in her backyard and then doesn't clean up after them so it smells really bad in the heat and there are flies everywhere.
Raffy's going to his new home tomorrow. I'm all about it. The temp foster dog we have until Tuesday is a complete mess - he hasn't had any boundaries, he stinks, he's probably got fleas and I think kennel cough and a UTI.
Aw, I'm sorry he's a mess DG. Has he been checked out by a vet? Does your foster coordinator know the shape he's in?
She does - he's been with another foster and foster coordinator the last week and we are temp fostering because the real foster is out of town. He said he wasn't potty trained, but the more I observe him at home - I knew something wasn't right. We're headed to the vet's office this morning.
My foster coordinator is AWESOME - I've only had him since Wednesday night and hopefully by today we'll have it all taken care of. There are others who are just not on top of their dogs and the issues their dogs have. He needs a bath, but just got neutered so I wasn't sure about it, but I guess I can do it as long as his incision doesn't get wet. Hopefully that will take care of the fleas too.
I'm sure he will be okay. Most of these dogs come into the program being a mess. He was in a shelter for 4 weeks until last week. Poor guy, he's learning how to be socialized and be part of a pack now. That's always a good thing. He's really sweet and affectionate and still a puppy - so I'm sure he'll have no issues finding a good home.
Astro is adorable! Even though you've been stressed about it, I'm glad he found his way to you so he can get the help he needs. These things work out for a reason!
Cuddly - my mom said flies lay eggs in windows so maybe clean there too. We just had a hatch of the largest flies I've ever seen. So gross. At least they were slow.
H is leaving to go out of town and I realized I only get one weekend day alone. When I pointed out my disappointment to H he got all pouty. I like my alone time, I get so much done!

That's exactly what I was thinking this morning. We had gone through a similar UTI experience with Raffy so that has helped us diagnosis Astro in just under 24 hours.
I think the other foster is doing a good job, but sometimes they just don't have enough experience or the RIGHT experience or right dog coordinator to know when there is a problem. I am so soo soo thankful I have the coordinator I do because she is really responsive to me anytime I think we have a problem.
Hugs DL. I think it's awesome that you and your H take in fosters. My H and I have talked about it from time to time, but I know it wouldn't work. We'd end up wanting to keep all of them!
Cuddlyevil, I hope you can get the flores under control quickly.
DL, you are so awesome with these fosters! They are all lucky to have you in their lives, however brief the stays may be.
I really want to go to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale today, but I know it'll be crazy and I hate crowds. I may go anyway. Also, one of my clients told me that she uses things I say in her day-to-day life and they help. I think I glowed.

gault. I love your face! cuddlyevil, we have been having ants lately. I hate them but flies are infinitely worse. Your neighbors sound horrible too. Can you call some sort of sanitation board in your city?

Mel, it's been better since she quit her second job. It's just that she's got a large golden and is dog sitting a couple other large dogs, she's working 10 hour days and can't clean the yard as often as she'd like. She's been trying to keep up with it more since the heatwave started which is appreciated.

You can shop online and get money back through ebates. I might scout in person, and then, if I'm going to buy, buy online so I can save more with the ebates cash back.
Another random: there was a short film made some time ago about the last place I worked. I just found out last night that it's been made into a full-length film (indie) that will be coming out later this year. My old coworkers and I are making plans to get together and watch it. So many people have worked there I think it will do really well in our city.

There's an annual fair in town this weekend, I think I might take DS to the carnival tomorrow and maybe to the parade that evening. H and nephew are fishing and camping tonight so I think DS and I will have leftovers for dinner and hang outside by his pool.
Sunday we say goodbye to nephew for another year. It's been a pleasant visit, but I'm ready for him to go home... It's bittersweet for sure.
