I was getting some water at breakfast this morning, and this participant walked up next to me. He said something about having abandoned his flip flops, and I looked down and he was bare foot. And then he said, "is that ok?" I said, "well, no, because there's food here. And also, I really don't know how clean those rugs are." He looked at me, and LITERALLY said, "if you spent a year in Iraq walking around bare foot in the desert, you would lose those sorts of concerns."
Seriously?
So I said, "well, you're not. You're at breakfast. At Harvard. Keep your shoes on."
And then I thought of GBCN, because while I may not post elsewhere on here very often, I sure do read it, heh.

It was so weird. So, so weird. And I am one of those people who really, really hate feet, and now I can't unsee him walking around barefoot when I look at him. *shudder*
I walked around barefoot exactly once at my on campus job and it was because I had walked cross campus in a *downpour* and my socks and sneakers (and lower pant legs) were legit dripping.
Boss told me next time to call for a ride. And to stay in my "office" and deal with wet shoes if I needed to leave the room.
(I worked in the computer labs, so fairly, um.. weird.. people.)
Oh, I just remembered I have a barefoot at work story! A woman in my office used to go into the bathroom barefoot in the summer. That creeped me out. She doesn't work there any more, probably for unrelated reasons.
