The spin class post got me thinking about how old my cycling shoes are. I think I've had them 5 years! And I take or each a spin class on average 2-3 times a week. I never wear them when I bike outside because I am a big weenie. Do I need new shoes? They don't stink but they have to be some kind of science experiment of bacteria. (If this redeems me - I buy new running shoes about 2 times a year.)
Do you get "hot spots" on your feet where the cleats are? Do the soles feel very "flexy"? Do your feet hurt? Do they fit your feet properly? Do your feel slide around in them (they shouldn't)? Are they stretched out? Is the velcro in good condition? Is the leather/faux leather/material in good shape? Are the cleats in good shape? Are they worn? Can you still clip in and out easily? LMK what your answers are, and I can tell you a bit more.
I ride outside 5 days/week and will get about 4 years out of a pair of road shoes. Their usual downfall is when the sole becomes flexy and starts to cause hot spots where the cleats are. I get 2-3 years out of mountain bike shoes b/c of the heavier wear and tear on them.

No discomfort or extra flex and they are still in really good shape. I got fitted at a great bike store and have loved them. Just was feeling a little scrubbing about wearing them for so many years. But if the real cyclists here wear theirs for years (sadlebred and joenali) then I feel better.
I'd say keep them and save the money unless you: 1. Have money to buy new shoes. 2. Found the cutest cycling shoes ever in your size and need to have them. 3. Just want to go shopping!
I still recommend checking the cleats for wear. Cleats are meant to be replaced every so often.
