I should know better than to look at the weather forecast for Lake Placid.
In 2008, the forecast was for 80s and sun. We had severe thunderstorms n the few days leading up to the race. Then on race day, it was 60 degrees and rain. I don't mean rain showers. I mean rain like I've never experienced in my life. It gave meaning to the term "raining buckets." Flash flood warnings on the bike course. It was miserable. The next day, we learned that the rain was literally only over the race. Everywhere else was sunny and 80. So, I should have learned not to look at the weather report, but...
The forecast for next Sunday is low 70s with a 60% chance of rain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that! If this heat doesn't go away, then that race is going to be all about survival. Literally!

Coincidentally, I was camping nearby when that happened! I was at Fish Creek. It poured and poured and poured. There was a little river going through our campsite and we raced cheetos. There is video footage of the event. Eventually we got sick of the rain and went into Placid and drowned our sorrows with some Ubu Ale. Mmmmmm Ubu Ale.
