They come into our yard all the damn time. I guess I thought getting a fucking fence would detour this. I am getting a lock this afternoon.
And don't get me started on their parents. Maybe they don't think it's a big deal since their dad (who happens to also be our contractor) built the fence.

I am more worked up about this than I should be.
No you're not, I would be fucking livid. What if you didn't notice? That is not okay. They need to tell their children to stay out of other people's property.

No, no you are not! You are right - kids should respect other people's property. ESPECIALLY if it involves your dog.
Think about it this way - if they thought it was OK to just walk up to your house and open the gate to let the dog out - what happens if you had a play set back their for your kids & they fall off of it? That falls on YOU. (totally hypothetical playset & kids assumed here).
I would be livid. We had a neighbor kid at one point who thought it was hilarious to bring his boxer off leash into my front yard and up to our backyard fence to torture our somewhat dog aggressive dog. I told him if he ever came back he'd get to explain his actions to the police.

Not overreacting at all. I would be BEYOND livid. OMG I can't imagine what I would do if the brat next door ever let Roxie out. She already likes to torment her (or did before we got the privacy fence).
I'd get a lock, march over to their parents and let them know that will NOT be happening again, and I would put this sign on my fence just for good measure: Attachment Deleted
This is exactly why we have a lock on our gate - dh caught the neighbor girl opening the fence one day because she "wanted to play with puppy!" I was really glad he was outside (in the garage so out of view) and heard the clink of the gate opening.
