I don't believe in a monarchy. I am excited because... I don't know. My mom loved Princess Diana and by default I did too. I think she represented good things and was a kind beautiful soul. I'm drawn to Kate Middleton in the same kind of way but as for everything else, well, I don't give a rats ass about it nor do I know enough.
I don't know why I am so excited. I don't believe that this baby is more deserving of being a ruler just because of his/her bloodline but I think the Royals are just figure heads anyhow. I guess I just love all things celebrities and the Royals are like the ultimate celebrities to me, because their "fame" remains through centuries. Also, I love the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Royals.
Emerson Kate, born 38w5d on 4/6/12 at 6:02 p.m., 5 lbs 13 oz and 18 3/4 inches. Lucas Matthew, born 39w5d on 4/11/14 at 8:20 a.m., 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 inches.
They are figureheads in practice - but figureheads who still technically have the power to dismiss governments and who have a lot of behind the screens power.
They also cost the taxpayer money (ie Prince William had a polo match so he had a navy helicopter on standby to take himn to London if necessary). They also seem to beleive that public resources belong to them (Prince Williams also took a navy helicopter to fly over his friend's batchelor party).
They also have proven themselves to be racist over the years (both Price Harry and Prince Phillip).
Hmm, well Phillip has, a, shall we say, errrr, questionable past when it comes to his, um, opinions on the Jews. So I don't care about him. Plus he seems mean.
I think Harry was a stupid kid when he wore that costume. People grow up. He's shown himself to be a really decent guy between his charity work and military service.
And yeah, they cost the taxpayers money but 77% of Great Britain wants them around. And I think they're a tourist attraction of sorts.
We don't have a long history in America and monarchy is one of those fantastical things we can only admire from afar.
And honestly, I think having a figurehead with limited power is good in some ways. They take the burden of ceremony off the politicians, they offer a national rallying point and in the event of the zombie apocalypse they could save the nation!
And they bring in tourism money and draw from their own coffers pretty extensively. And the queen has been clear that most royals will have to go do their own thing. Not draw from the government.
I think they're likable people, and Kate was/is a normal person. I'm interested to see the baby and hear its name, but that's about. Poor Harry gets pushed back a place because of the babe!
I think the appeal isn't that people like the idea of having a monarchy--it's that they like the idea of being princess. And there's always something so classy about how they appear in public, it adds to the mystique.
So when we think of her having a baby, it's not Kate Middleton; it's Princess Kate, having an heir to the throne. We don't imagine her sweating and pooping during labor, with bags under her eyes due to sleepless nights, pulling her hair out during colic or any of those normal baby things. We imagine her as she appears in public: perfect and living a charmed life where she will glide blissfully into motherhood. And we all envy that and live that life vicariously through the press releases.
Reading celebrity gossip is one of my guilty pleasures. But while the lives of a lot of the movie stars make for good gossip, I just have to keep shaking my head at their values/how they're screwing up their lives. Wills and Kate are so likeable and seem to have a charmed life that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to read about. Plus I like looking at pictures of her fashion choices.

To me they're celebrities. I don't really care about any celebrity babies, theirs included. I mean, don't get me wrong- I wish the best for mom and baby like I would anyone, I just don't care about their personal lives because I don't know them.
I don't believe in a monarchy. I am excited because... I don't know. My mom loved Princess Diana and by default I did too. I think she represented good things and was a kind beautiful soul. This exactly! My moms side is British and I remember when Dianna died my mom and nana were so sad. My nana had a British flag on her flag pole and it was lowered. I think it's more of a big deal because this is Diana's first born having his own child with a woman that very much reminds everyone of his mom. I don't think he could have chosen a better wife.
I'm fascinated with the whole monarchy family thing. Not that I really agree with it, it just seems so....historical. LIke, we hear about it in the textbooks and it's still going on today. Plus I think Kate is super sweet like Di, and my mother just loved her.
