My cousin gave birth to twins last week on Wednesday. The babies are fine. She started running a fever on the Thursday and her incision hurt. They started her on IV antibiotics but she keep getting worse. Then last weekend her incision broke open and it was awfully infected. Yesterday they got her back in surgery and she is still running a fever. I am so worried. She is in Athens Greece at an OB clinic. They should transfer her to the hospital soon. Thoughts and prayers would be nice. Do you know anyone who had that happen? Is she going to be ok? I know check your crystal ball...

My friend's niece was very ill with a staph infection after her first DD. She was in icu on antibiotics for about a week I think. She is now perfectly fine and has had two more kids without complication. T&Ps your cousin had just as good of an outcome. I'm sure she'll be on the mend soon.
I'm sorry. That does sound scary. Since they've caught it and are treating it, I am sure she will be on the mend soon. Thinking of you and your family.

She should be fine. It can be very scary, but not uncommon. 36% of the population as staph on their skin and are fine. Generally, it's just there, but can cause issues from time to time. About 6% have MRSA on their skin.
Her treatment depends on if it's resistant or not, but even if it's resistant, there are drugs to treat it, they just may not use the lesser potent drugs. They can tell the resistance/sensitivity by doing a swab of the wound and/or blood test.
It could have happened in the hospital or it may not have, but the where isn't as important as treating it right now.
ETA: I hope she improves quickly and without lasting issues and can get home to her babies soon.

It happened to me after my c/s. it was caught early so I didn't need surgery.
It also happened to me after my tummy tuck and wasn't caught early. I needed emergency surgery, was in ICU, and you probably remember the rest. It was really bad but I'm still here.
I'll keep her in my thoughts. It isn't uncommon and I'm sure with the surgery and antibiotics she will be fine!
