And carpet cleaner, if you have one?
Mine are eating up space in my coat closet right now. I'm not sure I want to leave them there. I thought about sticking them in the room with the water heater/hvac/water softener, but that seems like a bad idea for some reason.
I'm probably not much help because mine are in our coat closet, too! Do you have a basement? My parents keep theirs in the closet in the basement, but it's kind of a pain since you have to drag them upstairs to use them.
We have 2 vacuums - one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The upstairs one is in the utility closet off our laundry room. We have some cabinets up high on the wall in the laundry room and that's where I keep my carpet cleaner but it is a small handheld one (not an upright). It's the only place that makes sense but I don't like having to get on a stool or ladder to reach it. Our downstairs vacuum is in our furnace / hot water heater room...

Well, our vacuum either lives in our downstairs cost closet, or upstairs linen closet depending on what floor it was last used on. We have a carpet steamer that is in one of our guest closets (the room has 2).

Coat closet. It's a full-depth closet and there's a TON of space. We'd like to rework the closet at some point to separate out the "storage" section from the "coats" section, but we'll see, I guess.
My vacuum is in the gable window bumpout in our master bedroom. I always vacuum the entire house and start upstairs. My coat closet is too small and stores some of the kids toys. I dont have a pantry or another closet downstairs for it to go into.

We keep both vacuums (the large Dyson and the smaller Shark we use on the laminate floors) as well as our swiffer in the coat closet. It's pretty tight, but we make it work.
Ours is in the coat closet turned media closet right now, but I think that stuff (vacuum, brooms, dust mop) will end up in the water heater closet that is in the master bath once we get it all straightened out.
Ours is in the coat closet too (since most of the rugs are on that floor) and I try to vaccum those rugs daily. The bedrooms and playroom are every few days, so I don't bother storing the upstairs or downstairs.
Like others, mine is in the coat closet. It's the only closet/place other than my tiny pantry on my main floor that it can be stored. My other options are downstairs in the garage (but then is have to haul it up a flight of stairs every time) or upstairs in a bedroom closet.
