I saw a rental sign at a nice house and was curious how much it cost. It was $$$, but then I ran across this one.
Pink exterior, but look at the wood ceiling and the mid century-ish design! It's the same $ as we pay now, but has one more bedroom and one more bath. Plus it is in a nice neighborhood. ;( Why did I look?! Ugh!
granted i didn't have two small children or a particularly large amount of stuff to move at the time, but we lived in our first apartment for all of 5 weeks before a MUCH better option came on the market for the same price. even though we stood to lose half our deposit ($250 - which was HUGE to us then) because we told our landlord we were moving after the first of the month, we took the chance and packed.
it was so worth the extra inconvenience for a few weeks. we only lived in the second apartment for 10 months before we moved across the country, but in an otherwise miserable time in our lives, we have a fantastic little place to nest. of all the places we've lived, that apartment is still my favourite.
so clearly, i'm in camp Pack Up and Move if it's a reasonable option you want to consider. quality of life in your house, even in the short term, can make such a difference.
