We have a screen porch on the back of our house. There is a door in a car port that is visible from the street. There is also another door around back. Both doors are simple screen doors with hook and eye latches. Our door from the porch into our kitchen has a deadbolt lock and another key lock.
Our home was broken into last fall by someone cutting the screen on our porch and then unhooking the hook/eye latch and then smashing one of our dining room windows (two windows face onto the screened in area).
I want to get different doors for our porch, something with a lock that I can access from outside. Currently, we have to go inside our house, our the back door, and then unlatch the hook/eye to use the back entrance.
I don't see how changing the doors will do anything. They can just cut through any part of the screen right? A solid glass door won't stop them. The screened in porch does allow them to get near the house without being seen as easily but there is no way to make that your secure line unless you change it over to a 4 season porch or something similar. Have you considered getting a security system that has window sensors?
