What awesomeness occurred in your training last week? My whole week was chalked full of awesome. Bridge run? Killed it! Fastest ever. Track? That bitch was mine. Long run? No biggie! Recovery when my legs should have been dead? 2 sec off from marathon PR pace. (I brought my watch but didn't look at it. Just let my legs do what felt good to them.) I don't know what got into me, but I rocked week 4.
How do you like to spend your time when you're not training for the marathon? Name your favorite distraction. Travel and hanging out with DH.
Why do a lot of people gain weight during their long distance training? That's like the only fear I have right now, the scale can't afford to move up any more. How do you balance your weight and training? Be honest with yourself about how many calories you're really burning & what you're eating to satisfy that hunger. I gained a few pounds with my first, but I lost weight during all of my other races. Once I get to 40+ mpw, runger really kicks in. I eat when I'm hungry, but I try to make healthful choices. I bring a lunch bag packed with good treats everyday so I'm not tempted to eat something that is bad for me.

Why do a lot of people gain weight during their long distance training? That's like the only fear I have right now, the scale can't afford to move up any more. How do you balance your weight and training? I think I gained about 8 pounds training for my first marathon. mostly because I would eat way too much food on long run days because I was so hungry. I find that the best way to not be so hungry is to get some sort of recovery drink/food in my belly ASAP. like as soon as you walk in the door the first thing you need to be doing is getting your recovery food/drink ready. this really goes a long way toward keeping your intake the rest of the day reasonable.

Where did you run last week when it was a bazillion degrees outside for most of the country? I ran in Florida and MD, outside except for one TM run b/c I needed child care. How do you balance your weight and training? I only gained weight during one marathon and I was super skinny to begin with. I was dieting too much, and my body couldn't sustain that low of calories and train. Now that I am okay with a little bit of extra weight, I don't gain while training.

Where did you run last week when it was a bazillion degrees outside for most of the country? I only ran twice last week. M: treadmill sprints, F: treadmill, then out at a local park for a friday night 5k (aptly called the sizzling summer series-Hot, Hotter, and Hottest 5Ks. This was the Hotter one). It was 93F at the 8pm start.

Why do a lot of people gain weight during their long distance training? That's like the only fear I have right now, the scale can't afford to move up any more. How do you balance your weight and training? I hope to avoid gaining weight this time like I did in my first; I'm eating healthier snacks, I'm going to watch my calorie intake to make sure that I'm adding back enough, and I'm doing weekly sprints. I gained over 10lbs last time, and it was definitely not all muscle. I'm actually planning to bulk up my upper body a bit-I have a 5 mile obstacle run called the Gravedigger on Sept 28 and I'm going to need upper body strength to survive.

I'm running MCM, 10/27. I just started week 4 of training.
Last week I ran outside, mostly on a shady trail very early in the morning. It was still hot.
Advice: Try not to let the bad days/runs get to you. As long as you follow a good training plan, you will be ok.
Last week's awesomeness: Nothing really... I've been struggling with my runs in the heat and humidity. I fear more of the same this week.
My favorite distractions: I get sucked into reality TV. Project Runway just started up again! And SYTYCD.
Weight gain: I try to be careful about what I eat during the week, and then I let myself splurge a bit on my long run days. I lost a few pounds while training for my previous marathons, so hopefully the same will happen this time (but I gained those pounds back pretty quickly when my mileage dropped back down).
When is your marathon (and week of training)? 10/12, Week 1 of Pfitz 12/55 ( training twins ebeth)

Me too! I'm taking it one week at a time. I know I can handle week 1.
Not training for a marathon but my advice is to not get discouraged by summer running. Come fall and marathon season and cooler weather you will naturally get faster!
