I have to say, I think this season was not the best, it went by way too quickly. They only had 10 contestants and they got rid of them so fast. I think they only had 6/7 episodes in the entire season.
In the finale, I liked Jeribai's design best. I loved the colors he chose.
I like Jeribai, and his designs, but he seemed to have a lot of time management problems and incomplete spaces. I thought his final room looked unfinished, but what he did was nice.
I was kind of underwhelmed all season, but DH and I both thought that there was talent, just not much personality. We liked the lack of drama amongst the contestants, but maybe there would have been a bit more pushing the boundaries from the contestants if there had been more of that competitive energy.
I was kind of annoyed when Anne got sent home, but Brooks stayed. I guess Anne was kind of safe and didn't push the boundaries of design, but I liked what she did.
Brooks is just too "out there" for me. If I walked into the resort suite he designed, I would be shocked, and not in a good way. I mean, it's good to think outside the box, but his suite just looked crazy to me. It also didn't look expensive or luxurious, it looked like a cheap and wonky version of Versailles. Not what resort guests in Palm Springs are probably looking for. Plus, he was horrible at every camera challenge except the last one, so I didn't think he would be a good show host.
I feel like Jeribai could have made really super amazing rooms with more time. He's very careful and meticulous, so he doesn't do great in a time crunch. Then again, maybe that makes him not the best fit to host an HGTV show, since most renovations happen on a pretty tight time frame.

I wanted to like this season....I really did! But to me it just fell flat. I wasn't impressed with any of the contestants. I thought that Jeribai did the best on the on-camera challenges, plus he is just easy on the eyes

I only caught up with it after the first couple episodes. I liked Tiffany the best, so I was glad she won. I loved the fireplace she did in her final room, and I thought she had the most personality. That said... I don't really see her lasting past one season of her new show (which is what it seems happens with most of the winners lately). Does anyone know why they changed the name from "HGTV Design Star" to "HGTV Star"?
