We're one month into our renovation and are making decisions on window color & trim - would you go with a lighter window color with dark trim (i.e. clay window and darker trim) for a lighter brick home? Or darker window color with light trim
my H is concerned with lighter trim, it will show more wear & tear, vs darker trim. We'll have cedar shake around the front door & dormer windows upstairs.
These decisions are a little mind-numbing after awhile and all ideas sound good, then bad!
I always thing contrast with your siding/brick is better. It makes your windows stand out and appear bigger.
I would stick with white. It's clean, it's crisp, it's not complicated, it looks good with both brick and cedar shakes, and it's your cheapest option if you're building or renovating. Once you look at ordering any other color than white for your windows it gets pricey and hard to match if you ever need to replace a door or window. Also exterior trim is easy to find it white and is easier to match to the windows than a brown color.
I have never seen a house with big windows and white trim, and thought "gee, nice windows, but the trim kinda screams!"
I would go with white for all the reasons Fox gave. Plus, even if you could get matching trim for some future project or replacement, it might not match because the existing trim might have faded. (That is the case with our siding.) White will avoid that issue.
We have 6' tall x 3.5' wide windows and 4' tall x 6' wide windows with white exteriors and trim.
I think creams/off whites look good with brick/weathered cedar as well and it looks really fancy but white is just so much easier. You want an easy answer right? LOL
