Nope. We have a koi pond in our backyard, but it is empty right now. Even with a net over the top of it, the raccoons kept eating the koi. They ripped right through the net. We gave up on it. Good luck, though, because they are beautiful and soothing.

We have a large one. FI takes care of it. But we have to keep the waterfalls clean and make sure the water flows or it will burn up the pump. We have to keep the pump going 24/7 so the water gets aerated. In the cooler months we can feed them every other day, when its hot every day. He cleans the filters out once a week. We have the floor vacuumed once a year.
Koi pools were all the rage back in the 60's. Sounds like a lot of work, but honestly I'd love to have one myself. If only for the sentimental value. One of my childhood friends had one in her backyard and I loved it.

Our biggest concern was the safety. It doesn't make sense to me that there are crazy strict zoning laws about fences around swimming pools, but koi ponds can be right outside your front or back door with no protection whatsoever. Children can drown in a few inches of water.

Depending on the set up you may want to consider getting a uv light for the water to go through if you are filtering it. That will kill the algae that gets sucked up.
I'd make sure you get a high quality pump that can handle the amount of water and the load of fish on the pond. As for the water, is there any way you can drain the gunky water out of there, power wash it or something, and then fill it back up?
I just filled mine in. Too much work. You need a good pump/filter (maybe a UV filter) and google is your best friend. Find a nursery that has a pond department and ask tons of questions.
No, it's just maintaining the filters/pump, mechanics kinda thing that got to be annoying. It's very cathartic, a lot like gardening, when it's going well. Fish are very cool....behaviors a lot like dogs. You can teach them tricks.
