My husband and I just booked a long weekend in Dublin for our anniversary in October. We will be there 4 nights (taking the Red eye from Philly Thurs night, flying home Tuesday). I was wondering if anybody had recs for a daytrip from Dublin. We would be fine with renting a car for the day or taking a train somewhere.

They do day tours out of Dublin for Powerscourt Estate and Glendalough. Both are in the Wicklow Mtns about 40 minutes and 1+ hour south of Dublin (give or take). Of course you could drive as well. Though before you decide to rent a car check out something like Viator and see if there are any prearranged tours you would rather do instead. They are rather cost efficient.
Powerscourt is beautiful! Google streetview has done a lap around inside the gardens. And Glendalough. Well that was probably one of my favorite places in all of Ireland.
I did a day trip to both Cliffs of Moher and Giant's Causeway from our hotel (Ritz-Carlton at Powerscourt, so significantly south of Dublin). Both can be done in a day and the Burren was amazing! Never seen anything like it. Giant's Causeway I wouldn't recommend only because you have better things to do with your time and getting there is incredibly time consuming. It is very cool though and I am glad I went.

I did a day trip through the Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough and absolutely loved it. It was through this company, which I'd definitely recommend: www.overthetoptours.com/. They do small vehicles--I think they seated 12 or so--and we got to do a hike near Glendalough on our own as well, which was really nice.
I'm glad you're planning on getting out of Dublin (we also spent one night in Kilkenny like pp mentioned. It was our favorite night of the trip!); Ireland is so much more (and prettier) than just Dublin. You really have to get out of the city to experience it.
