This is my vent: Our daycare provider is on vacation this week, so we had to find someone else (we knew this far, far in advance). My cousin was originally lined up to do it for us but had to back out last minute because of her internship hours being extended for school. We had to scramble and find someone to watch DD this week and I called my SIL (younger brother's wife- brother is deployed for Navy right now) who is currently pg and works mostly evenings.
When I called her up and asked if she was available, she said it was no problem. I told her I would pay her the regular weekly daycare cost (I never expect anyone to watch my kid for free except my mom or MIL who beg to take her anyway) and she tells me "Oh, no! I will NOT accept your money. I would simply expect the same thing from you if I needed an emergency babysitter. I mean, I'll probably call you and tell you I'm coming over for you to take my kid when she's born!" I was like..."Um, huh? Oh, ok." because we were so desperate and needed someone to commit to watching DD or DH or I would have to take off work.
Well this morning, she is telling me she was talking to my brother saying I was funny, and that I was going to actually pay her for watching DD and how she wouldn't accept the money, because again, she expects to drop by with her baby any old time. Again I was "Um...". *sigh* This is why I wanted to PAY her. So I wouldn't be EXPECTED to watch her baby when she felt like dropping her off. Is it bitchy to be annoyed with her? I mean she's doing us a HUGE favor, but I did not expect her to do it for free with the stipulation that I would be watching her kid all the time. Hell, I'd rather pay her than have that hanging over my head! Ugh. Note: I haven't said anything bitchy to her about it, I simply smile and change the subject.
I just had a no-show for a Craigslist sale. Fifteen minutes of my life gone forever and meanwhile, my kids and I were starving.
I don't like shopping for carpet. I went to one of those giant warehouse places to price shop and found the number of choices overwhelming. I feel as though I need to create a spreadsheet.

Ugh so we got our oil changed about a month ago and now my car is leaking oil. Well I got to looking at the sticker and the fers put the wrong oil in my car seriously. So now on top of that my car is Getting crapsatic gas milage. I'm making DH take care of this!!
I'm annoyed DH won't let me tint my windows. The trucks window which is what is drives is already tinted. Its like under $200. Dude its hotter here than our old place.
Positive note: I got the rug I ordered for the dining room.

I'm getting a breast reduction!! Surgeon said I was a perfect candidate and expects no issues getting it approved by insurance, but once it comes back and we're good to go, they'll schedule it about a month out. I was floating on cloud 9 until my H (who works for our insurance company) pointed out that the multiple pictures of my breasts were going to be attached and viewed by someone he works with. That.. is awkward.
LOL. People are so weird. And entitled about the damndest stuff.
I think I would cut her a check at the end of the week, so you can feel not at all guilty about saying no to her kid.
Yup. And I'd hand it to her and say, "so I would love to watch your DD, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how busy we are with 2 jobs and so many house projects going on that IDK how often we'd really be able to take her. I feel much better paying you for helping us out this week and I hope we can trade babysitting for the occasional date night in the future!"

Yep, this.
Although, are you decidedly not interested in watching the baby at all, ever? Obviously she knows you work and have your child in daycare, so I doubt she's going to expect you to take time off whenever she needs a break. Maybe she's just hoping for a date night here or there. Which might be worth it if it means she'll be able to do daytime care when you're in a pinch.
If it was planned, and she called ahead of time to clear it with me, sure I'd watch her baby, but she said she would call while she was on her WAY. She said it twice in what seemed like a non-joking way. She's got a case of the self-entitlements. She's verrry naive. We had a discussion once about how I would love to quit my job to go back to school, but how it was just a pipe dream at this point in my life. She didn't understand at all why I didn't quit my job tomorrow to do something I love. Like bills, health insurance, and groceries paid for themselves or something. She's just...so random. When I was showing her how to work the tv and said it's a Comcast system she says "Um, just so you know, AT&T is a lot cheaper." Um, sweet? So weird.
I am apparently secretly sad that we're rounding the final bend of this reno adventure. I had a dream that we bought a house. We went to go see it on a whim and literally just bought it on the spot after having not even gone through all the rooms.
it looked normal sized from outside, but it was HUGE. It had this huge room in the basement with this weird thing hanging from the ceiling that was kinda like a big train table. And the master bedroom was like a small basketball court. The whole thing needed a huge amount of work - the HVAC system was only half installed. Half the trim had been painted magenta and had globs and drips all over it. But it had this amazing dining room and a huge kitchen (which also needed tons of work, but had a great layout) so I was all excited and we were just like, "eh, we'll sell the other house. too bad we never got to finish it."
You know...now that I think of it - from the outside it was that pink rental that bunnymendelbaum posted. Except not pink. And it was HUUUUUUUGE inside. It just kept going and going and going.

I love how you had a dream about that house, but I didn't!~

Oh, and thewop, at least you had some kind of plan in place. My sitter told H that she would be closed next week about a month ago (her son is having surgery) and he JUST NOW is finding someone to cover. She had a wrong number for me and I never found out. So far, we have Monday through Wednesday covered, I'm out of time off and his coworker is still not back after she broke her ankle while on vacation before the 4th of July (and won't be until mid-august).
