DH has decided he wants me to go ahead and order the pendants for our basement now instead of just putting covers on the junction boxes for the appraisal. So I need to pick a finish fast!
The finished side of our basement is a big 640 sf rec room that we just use as storage right now but we want to turn into a multifunction space when we remodel it. On one side of the room is a nook with a 4'x6' window taking up most of the wall space. We plan to build a desk into this area with two pendants on their own switch.
(This has the glossy black shade. The Antique Black would be a matte black color.)
On the other side of the room we want to build a daybed with two armed wall sconces above it.
The rest of the space has recessed lighting.
We're painting the walls this weekend. They will be a light gray (BM Classic Gray at 200%), the trim & doors will be white down there, and we'd like to have a medium wood tone floor (think light walnut).
I think the safe color to pick would be the Antique Black but a recent post by 6th Street Design School got me thinking. They used Matte Bronze and I like the warmth it adds to the space only I'm not sure it would go with a gray wall instead of the white walls they have. Also I feel like the medium wood floors would have the same tone as the bronze lights.
I did a quick Photoshop mock up with the paint color as well. The light gray color is on the left...it looks a little darker in real life than my screen is showing.
Obviously the Antique Black is not entirely correct just a desaturated Matte Bronze but it should be close.
Is it just me, or does Matt Bronze sound like a fictional secret agent name from the sixties? lol
LOL! I would have never come up with that.
So you guys think I can pull off the bronze color? I guess I'm waiting for TH&R to come in and tell me not to mix greige with warm toned wood trim or something. Do I need to stick with bronze knobs & pulls or can I mix in a wrought iron/black color? I have no idea what we'll be using when we get around to remodeling that space but I'm hooked on these black pulls and knobs right now:
I much prefer the black color than the ORB where the bronze color only shows on the corners. We have these in the master bedroom, master closet, and on the bedroom closet bi-folds though so maybe I'll be sick of them by then.
