I used to be all kind of funky/modern/quirky-ish in my old apt. Then I got married and it went a little too country. I'm now in my own happy element. A little bit country/a little bit antiquey/a little bit traditional. I get my weird in fun paint colors and patterns now.
My style and tastes have evolved over the years, as I am exposed to more things and as my lifestyle changes. I have always liked change though, and have been open to new and different...maybe because my dad hated change and I thought that was boring and limiting.

Yep. Red kitchen? "Melted" clock? Totally not the same as my style now. I think I went a little crazy. I was very much into modern but I think I've settled into a transitional style where everything big is neutral and the color and fun comes in smaller things (POPS of color, to quote YHL lol).
I think so, but my style wasn't that clearly defined before so I think that helps. Right now, I like transitional pieces and styles and I'm sure that will change over the years. For example, we had red, microfiber couches for years and I refused to move those suckers into the new house. RED people. I have no idea why I thought that was a good idea. I also used to love more trendy pieces for rugs but now I like the traditional, oriental rug look. I'm all over the place.
yes, mine has changed. I have lightened up and gone more streamlined/modern. To some extent I think this is just the direction trends have gone in. On the other hand I think that pre-Pinterest I just had so much less exposure to design stuff and really had not idea what option there were.

No. I've just realized that I need to trust my gut and buy stuff I love instead of stuff other people think I should love. Like the dark tables in our last house. I wanted white. After living with those stupid dark tables for two years, I sanded them down and painted them white.

I've settled to be a nice transitional before I tried to be too modern at times and too traditional sometimes. I've drifted from the safe reminds me of home burgundy hunter green and navy blue colors
when we first got married i had no real sense of style so i picked up what was easy and cheap. at the time earth tones were everywhere so my house was chocolate brown, beige, cream, blue and red. mostly chocolate brown. i hate that colour so much now.
then when we moved, we had to get rid of most of our furniture because it didn't fit in our new apartment. literally, it was all too big. so i went on a painted, shabby chic kick because we were po' and i had to furnish this place on a super tight budget. buying different end tables and painting them to match was the best i could do.
over the last three years i've come to realize that i'm really a minimalist at heart. i like straight lines, not a lot of details. i work hard to find things that are both functional and pretty so i can decorate with the things we use everyday. we're not there 100%, but that's definitely the direction we're heading and for the first time i really feel like this is MY space. that it reflects my personality and i'm not just putting on a show or doing what's trendy.

I don't know that mine has necessarily changed, it's just become more defined. When we bough our current house (our first), it was the first time I'd had to decorate from scratch. I had no idea what I wanted, and I didn't trust what I liked, so we ended up with a whole lotta neutral. It's nice in theory, but it's SO boring. I'm so, so tired of bland, blah things. I'm dying for color. Now I'm lobbying to either paint this house or buy another one.
Yes for the most part. I am gravitating toward more neutral, modern mixed with traditional pieces. I used to like matchy-matchy pieces but I also think that it was because I was just inexperienced. It's funny to think about things I used to LOVE.

LOL, we have two red chairs in our family room, but they are a darker red and they match the sofa and curtains, so it all blends.
I actually have a very open mind about styles and love almost any style (except country/shabby chic) so long as it is done well and not haphazardly. My problem is that I have zero sense of how to style things, so I tend to stick with neutrals because they are safe.

My style changed when we bought our current house. I went from something like pottery-barn-esque to a more updated MCM type preference. But it really complements the house so much better.
Absolutely. My taste has evolved to be a little more simple and more "me" and not so...fake? I don't buy things simply because I think 'Oh that would look good there' I buy because I love it and it speaks to me. This is why I still have empty walls in my house. I'm more into buying quality things I really like rather than things to fill empty space. That's not to say I won't buy a Target/Marshall's generic decor, but I won't buy it just becuase I have a wall to fill and it's only $15.

Yeah um, you will laugh if I ever show pics of the old couch and loveseat. Those suckers cost a pretty penny when we bought them back in 2005 too. I also have zero sense of styling a room, so we'll see if my vision in my head will translate properly once our furniture arrives.
ETA: I now prefer neutrals for the main pieces and hope to add color with smaller accent stuff. This is more MM too, right? RIGHT?
I don't think my style has changed a lot. If I think back to my first apartment it's not all that different from what I would choose now. I almost always default to a vintagey, slightly feminine look with lots of blues, greens and yellows. When I got married this got derailed a bit for awhile when I was trying to be kind to dh by being more neutral gendered but it didn't last long and he's fine with the girly nature of my decorating (within reason).

Yes. I completely changed color palettes from our first apartment. Everything used to be warm - tan, brown, red. Now pretty much my entire house is cool colors. A lot more modern now, too.
