Does anyone workout with a rebounder? I need to get into a new routine but I am severely over weight. I was thinking rebounder would be nicer to my joints and I would still get a good workout.
Thoughts?
I would buy a small personal sized one for inside the house, not a large outdoor one. Our only rebounder gym is over 40 minutes away and I would not make it up there often enough.
Its definitely a lot easier on my knees than running or other cardio that I do. I actually got it because I was doing Tracy Anderson, and the Dance Cardio was really rough on my knees. I like it because I can plop it in front of my TV and just kinda bounce around for 30 min during a TV show, vs sitting on my ass like I would normally do . Its also really good for building into more intense exercise, because you can start really low intensity while still getting a better workout than say, walking for 30 min. Its also great for your lymphatic system.
If you have any weakness in your joints at all, or are prone to sprains like I am (as mcc noted, hehe) I highly recommend protecting them by wrapping or wearing a brace and going little by little in increasing your intensity. The day I sprained my ankle I was going all out and doing a bunch of crazy moves, and just not really being all that careful...so as long as you take it easy and don't do that, you should be fine haha.
I've only been on it a few times since the sprain, always in a brace, and much lower intensity to help build my strength back up in my ankles, but even with that I always feel like its a good workout because I find it really works a lot - your legs, core, and once you feel ready, you can use your arms more too.
I was looking at the Urban Rebounder because the weight limit is higher. I believe it comes with workout DVDs too. I'll have to look into it more now and try to con my DH into letting me spend the money for it.
