Organic milk always have a longer expiration date, I'm sure it's fine.
Why is that? It always weirds me out. Our milk will always go bad before the exp. date for sure...
I think it's just a different preservation process that makes it last longer. It has to because organic farms are fewer and farther between, so often times the milk has a lot farther to travel.
Well I get low temp pasteurized organic milk, and it goes bad within a week. It has such a far expiration date on yours likely because it was ultra high heat pasteurized (UHT), so they blasted the shit out of it with heat. That is usually done by a bigger organic milk company because it is harder for them to keep infections in check in their herds with typically used antibiotics, so that milk can end up being higher in microbes. Heat the crap out of it and they are safe. UHT milk can actually be stocked out of the fridge, but they still keep it in the fridge section to not freak people out.

Where do you get it? A local dairy? I need to find one of those that has hormone-free milk or organic. There are some awesome raw cheeses at the farmer's markets here but I've never seen low temp pasteurized milk here.

Yeah it's a local place, and it is super yummy. I get a delivery of local produce, milk, and pastured local eggs every week. They sell at the farmer's markets too, but I work during the times the best markets are open. I'm full fledged out there hippie when it comes to food though I don't do full on raw milk, but I think the low-temp/non-homogenized version really helps to keep the original enzymes intact.

Yeah, that makes sense (and good for you for hippying out!) and I would definitely be interested in that. I didn't used to like milk but we use it for coffee and for Max and cooking. That's so cool that you get it delivered! I am jealous. I need to do research to see if we have something like that here. San Diego county has an enormous amt of farms so we must, right?! We have gone through some CSAs but I haven't seen a dairy one... hmmm...

I'm in San Diego (that article is for LA and OC) but I did find a few when I googled, just having a hard time finding a low heat processed/no hormone milk. Gonna keep looking though. Thanks!
Apparently Straus does lower heat pasteurization, yay! They have them at our whole paycheck. I love their greek yogurt hard. Bay area Mamas - if you're interested, they are local. strausfamilycreamery.com/products/item/organic-whole-milk
We have been drinking organic milk for years. It is more expensive but it lasts much longer and I think it tastes a lot better too! We usually go through it pretty quickly but I've never had it go bad before the date on it.

We buy UHT milk here, and it's never in the fridge part of the store. And we never put it in the fridge either, even after we open it. We go through a liter a day or every two days, though. Once it's open, it should last (I am guessing) a week in the fridge.

So, is this like the olden days when the milk man used to come deliver your milk in the glass bottles
I've been buying organic eggs since Sam was born, it never occurred to me to buy organic milk too. It's not that much more expensive, I might have to make the switch for DH and I too (we just drink 1%), especially since it lasts longer.
Even after it is opened it stays good for a long time. I used to only buy organic for J, but now I buy it for me too because then it won't go to waste. I really only use it for my cereal in the morning.
