So much fun stuff! And cheap. A MCM china hutch/buffet and MCM dining set. The whole thing sold for $200.00 and was in perfect condition!
$50.00 on an MCM bedroom set. Some scratches but pretty much great.
Too bad none of that was my style.
Perfect condition Red Wing crocks (Midwest girls KWIM I think) for $150.00 and I've seen them sell for 1k.
Boxes and boxes of glassware/stemware/dishware/canister sets. Choice on the box $2.00. Totally fun stuff.
I bid on a handmade mirrored jewelry armoire that was solid cherry. I quit at $50.00. Some other guy bought it for $60.00. 10 minutes later he comes up and says, "I bought it for my daughter. She decided she doesn't have space for it. Do you want it for $60.00?" I said "sold." Not even 5 minutes after that, the granddaughter-inlaw of the estate comes up and says, "Can I make you an offer. It was my H's grandmas. We were dealing with our kids when it came and missed it?" So I sold it to her. She offered me $75.00 out of the blue so I made $15.00...lol.
I bid on a bedroom set (which is ironically the same as ours..lol). I wanted to finish off our set and put the extras in E. students room. However, it sold for $500.00 for some reason and I didn't love it that much.
And the kicker, they sold this 5 bedroom, decent condition Victorian style farm house, lakefront, 40 acres and nice outbuildings for $170K. It was almost mine and Hs but we backed down. It'd have been great but we got thinking, "What the hell are we going to do with this exactly?" It was more investment hassle than we were up for.
We really went to bid on the farmland but at over 10K and acre, we walked. We weren't up for a million dollar investment on 70 acres.
I did get:
A copper basket thing with a lid An etched water pitcher and 6 glasses. They don't make glass like that anymore. I'm a bit sad about my jewelry chest, but the girl was so nice and I felt bad (I know what's it's like to not get the stuff of my grandma's I really wanted.)
I didn't get anything from my Grandma's sale either and it makes me very sad. I am very sentimental. So I think it was cool that you let the girl buy it from you.

Those were always the auctions my parents loved. Sometimes there got to be soo many antique dealers that its not even fun because stuff goes for such high prices. I love the red wing my mom has several from auctions too

That happens here too and it sucks. Antique dealers drive me kind of nuts sometimes. However, the draw to this auction was the farmland, so it was basically a bunch of crop farmers waiting for that to go to bid and their bored wives standing around bidding on stuff.
That's why it was fun. Just all normal people out and about.
And in this area no one is really, "OMG! Antiques! MCM, Furniture to redo!" lol. Hell, my MIL is still using half the stuff people fall all over otherwise.
It's weird to me. I grew up in an area where that house would've went 400K no questions and all the house stuff would've been three times the price.
Where are photos of your score? It doesn't count unless we get to see the stuff. ;p
This! I love auctions! But the bidding war makes me all anxious. We almost a got a toy horse that blinked and moved its head and neighed. My son loved it and he was one. It sold for $300 and was out of my budget. I went to auctions a lot last year but I discovered I like too many random craps and it was an easy way for me to clutter up the house so I quit. LOL! I keep wanting a barrister bookcase but they are always in such high demand I can't win one by bidding. I refuse to go higher than my budget. I have to have it eventually but it must be a "score" or a pretty good deal. LOL!
