H and I just booked a spur of the moment trip to Las Vegas. Well not exactly spur of the moment because the trip isn't until October but we were discussing what to do on our next vacation. Vegas came up and 10 minutes later it was being booked!
At the moment we are both happily child-free though I am leaning more toward never-ever and H is leaning maybe someday.
I used this to make a point. "See we couldn't do something like that if we had kids. We would have to buy diapers and formula and save for college. This is sooooo much better."
His response, "Yeah, babies are stupid."
That is our go-to response anytime someone we know can't do/afford something because of their kid.

We are the same way. For some odd reason people seem to think we have a boat load of money because we take semi expensive trips every year (sometimes twice a year). My response, No we don't actually have that much money it's called we have a house that is almost paid off and NO KIDS!

kjewell! Vegas! Yes!
Hubby and I were talking about taking a trip in October as well... we got married there and kind of LOVE Vegas. It probably won't happen with house stuff and all,l but a girl can dream.

Exactly! People don't understand. H and I both work in retail (as deptartment managers) we live comfortably but are by no means 'loaded'. We have a mortgage that is well below rent in our area, no kids, and the kicker here that really throws people off is WE LIVE WITHIN OUR MEANS. we don't have any debt (except the house) and we have savings for things like home-improvements and vacations budgeted right into our monthly budget!

Exactly! It's all about budgeting and living within your means not necessarily how much you make.

Woo hoo! Sounds great, kjewell!
It's fun to book things on a whim like that, and I love your points. My H and I discuss this all the time, too.
And monkeygirl and kjewell, people say the same thing to us because we try to take an international trip every year. I laugh whenever people ask if we have a bunch of money because it's obvious we don't - my H works in law enforcement and I'm currently unemployed, LOL. I always tell them it's about priorities and budgeting!
Lucky and I were talking about that last night. We ended up going to San Francisco at about 10 PM for a dinner. It was so nice to just say "yes, let's go" and then just go...no worry about a baby sitter or anything like that.
Exactly! We get comments every so often about our finances and trips. If only those people knew that every trip we took this year was paid for through S's flyer miles and hotel points (from all of the business travel he did over the past 2 years - damn straight I'm taking advantage of it!).
Plus, we have accounts set up specifically for vacations in which we put $50 aside from each paycheck. It adds up after a year.
We also joke around that one of our extra bedrooms is really our money room. We like to go in there every so often and just roll around in the cash.

All of the above! I can't count the times I've tried to plan things with friends who have kids, and it is IMPOSSIBLE. Then people post on message boards about how their friends have disappeared since they had a baby.
OMG, yes! I have a good friend who has a daughter I adore, but sometimes it's hard to plan anything because we have to schedule around nap times and such.

LOL, this is a great image! My mother likes to say H and I have more money then God. I told her that we have so much we swim in it like Scrooge McDuck.
We're hosting a cook-out/party next month. I specifically put on the invite that it's an Adult Party, because a few weeks ago when we were chatting about it with some friends oneof the guys mentioned that he may have his kids that weekend but if we have video games then they'll be OK.
Ummm, NO! I nipped that in the bud right away. We have NEVER had a party that didn't involve a lot of alcohol and kids have never been included on an invite. I think the only kids that have ever stepped foot in my home are my nieces, and they're 12 and 15 (and behaved).

DH and I have 2 fur babies, a dog and a cat. We love them dearly, and we are perfectly content with having them as our children. Planning a getaway may take a little more work with finding them boarding or finding a hotel that allows pets, but we wouldn't trade them for anything. No kids though, not now, maybe not ever...
When in October?! We'll be out there Oct 25-28 for M's 30th!
LOL I don't think I've ever booked a Vegas trip while sober or with more than five minutes of talking about it. I'm pretty sure I lost my mind on this one coming up though...I decided we should stay one more night, but the only flight I could get myself on leaves at 7.20 AM on a Sunday. Pretty sure I'm going to regret that choice, but SO looking forward to it now.
