I'm bad about not stretching after my workouts. I do a kickboxing circuit 5x a week and my shins are always sore. Are there certain specific stretches you do after your workout?
For sore calfs (calves?), I foam roll. Usually stretching doesn't do a whole lot for me for that particular ailment. For other stretches, I do a lot of couch stretching and shoulder work with a band.
Sore shins almost always equal tight calf muscles. Foam rolling is good but you need to stretch both your gastroc and your soleus. The gastroc is your typical "runner" stretch with your back leg straight and you are lunging. The soleus is similar but you bend your back knee.
For shins, toe taps really help to stretch out the front of your leg. I do 50 on each foot, usually mid run and after. Another thing that really helps is doing some yoga (down dog and half pigeon), but that's because I have tight hammies and hips.
