H and I want to do a mid-week summer get-away. I have tons of vacation time to burn but we don't want to spend that much money or go too far. we are not fans of driving long distances. Help me pick our get-away.
Block Island - one night, package with ferry tickets, dinner, breakfast, bike rentals & hotel comes to $360 -we have never been, its supposed to be beautiful, ferry terminal is like 30 minute drive for us
White Mountains, NH - could go for one or two nights, I found this deal: www.travelzoo.com/local-deals/Boston/Getaway/63213 -kind of a long drive for us, but we have been to this area before and its also pretty, I could also make H take me on the cog railroad up Mt. Washington which I haven't done since I was a kid
I am leaning towards Block Island because we have never been and its closer, but then I start to feel guilty that its much more expensive for one night than the others.
LOL at that Sturbridge place. I have been there, and the description is ridiculous. The Sturbridge Host is not a quaint little hotel on a lake. It's a megaplex hotel with a man made pond filled with geese shit. The lobby is huge and cheesy, with a fake gazebo and shit.
I'm biased though. My high school prom was there, so it will forever remind me of teenage sweat and Stairway to Heaven.
Plus I don't think of Sturbridge as the Berkshires, and its really not that great of a place for getaway. I love the Lenox area, and if you could get a good rate at the Red Lion Inn, that would be lovely place for a summer getaway.
But I like the Block Island idea. I've never been there either.

Excellent feedback - because I was thinking quaint and on a nice swimming lake (like one would expect in New England!!!). So thank you for setting me straight on that one.

OMG ESF, I just looked at google maps. I think I was confusing Sturbridge with STOCKBRIDGE - which is actually in the Berkshires and where I have been before.
You are 100% right in that Sturbridge is NOT actually in the Berkshires.

LOL! I think there's swimming on one end of it, though I haven't paid close enough attention. The part up against the hotel just has that ugly man-made look to it.
Stockbridge and Lenox are so nice. The Norman Rockwell museum is great, and if something good is playing at Tanglewood, it would be a nice trip. But I feel you on the whole leaving the dog behind thing.
