the only door in our apartment is a sliding glass door. while i love the floor to ceiling (literally, low ceilings over here) windows i am always struggling with window coverings. for three years we've used curtains because it's the most obvious solution, but i'd really love to consider other options if there's something out there.
our entry nook is immediately adjacent to the door so dirt from shoes gets on the bottom of the curtains. it's the only window in our living room so we need to be able to pull whatever it is out of the way. we have to be able to manage whatever from the outside as we're leaving so i imagine that roller blinds would be frustrating. we always pull the curtains closed when we leave because the door looks right into our living room and our tv, etc. are visible. i highly doubt anyone can see in without binoculars, but h is hard and fast with this rule and i'll respect it.
am i missing another option? are we destined to live with curtains forever?
you never realize how much you appreciate little things like a normal front door until you're forced to live without one :-)
Verticle blinds? I hesitate to suggest them, since I truly despise them and dream of tearing them down in our house. Or what about those fabric panels that are on sliding systems at the top? You'd have two panels, and one would slide over the other when you need to open the door, and then you slide it back to cover the door when you leave? I see them at Ikea and the hunter douglas woman who came to our house suggested them for our doors.
We use curtains for our back sliding door but I put these in DD's room. She also has a sliding door out to a balcony. They are easy to close with just one hand and provide good coverage.
