First of all, Jews throw awesome weddings. There are so many people there and so much booze and dancing and singing. We do the circle dancing that you always see on TV, but to an extreme. Usually the men and women are separate, but this is one of my oldest friends, we've known each other for 20 years, so I decided that didn't apply to me (he was cool with that. I wouldn't have done it otherwise). It was SO MUCH FUN. I haven't had that much fun in a long time.
Oh! And here's a fun thing we crazy Jews do that I didn't know about! So my friend was the last one in his family to get married so during the dancing, he, his wife and his siblings and their spouses sat their parents down in chairs in the middle of the dance floor, gave them crowns (made out of construction paper) and did this dance with brooms for them. Apparently it's a custom "from the old country."

Is rjamz drunk? Because that would be awesome!
You know I love a good Jewish wedding. The Hora at mine was awesome, but men and women were together. The last 2 weddings I went to had half assed horas. It sucked. And H says that it sucks trying to lift a chair with people that don't kow what they are doing.

We did this! My dad was insistent on it since I was the last daughter to get married off. I had no idea what it was, but apparently all of my dad's cousins did. It was fun!

I've heard of it! Well a bit different but it's called a Mezinka. Technically Dh and I should have done it for our parents but decided against it since our guests would have been a whole WTF?!

Yes! Yes! I was trying to remember what it was called. Mezinka! I was the first one married and so was H and I guess most of our friends were also bc this was the first time I had seen/heard of it

When we did it, my parents sat and we stood next to them. Everyone danced around in a circle and came in to hug and kiss them and say mazel tov. I don't think we had brooms.
All of our non Jewish friends couldn't stop telling us how awesome they thought Jewish weddings are.

I got lifted in the chair at my wedding and we aren't Jewish. I have no idea how or why it happened but it was scary! A bunch of drunk ppl lifting me in the air... no thanks.
speaking of Jewish weddings, what's with the tradition of breaking the glass after the ceremony?
Traditionally it is a reminder of the destruction of the temple in ancient Jerusalem. Some other people have taken it to a more secular practice, particularly in the reform movement, be a reminder that marriage is fragile.
