Fabric softner can make the towels less absorbant. Using vinegar makes them fluffy and absorbing.
cuddlyevil. Oh em gee. I want to fucking murder your H. Go get some lunch meat and slap him with it. Then you should rub it all over the seats in his car.
starrieskies - I am insanely happy for you. If my car had AC I would drive to your house to volunteer to help.
River cat had to spend the day at the vet. He has an infected claw. He is now in a giant cone and it is not dignified.

I've used 1/2 of white, distilled vinegar in the wash before and it softens/freshens the towels up. They're not quite fabric softener soft, but they do get fluffy.

I need details on use this! My kids have such sensitive skin and I miss fluffy/puffy towels, lol.
Just use plain vinegar instead of fabric softner. They won't smell like vinegar when you are done and they are really fluffy! I usually just pour a little in to the washer because I am lazy but it is probably about 1/2 cup.

Yep, everyone else answered before I had a chance to log in this morning. The fabric softener makes the towels less absorbent.
That being said, I have used fabric softener while washing my towels for 20 years. This is the first time H has decided to throw a fit about it. I told him if he wants them done a certain way, he can do them and walked away.
I was telling Boyfriend last night the towel story and the lunch meat story and everyone's reactions. He said "I better not do anything stupid because you and your internet friends will ruin me."
