Best bars/clubs in downtown Toronto?

Taking the BF to Toronto for an overnight to celebrate his 40th birthday. Planning on staying downtown and going out after a nice dinner. Looking for recs for nicer bars and clubs to hit up. They don't have to be super fancy but seeing as we will be dolled up for dinner, we probably won't be hitting up sports bars or the like.
