I'm leaving for vacation on Thursday. A friend and I are flying across the country to attend another friend's wedding and then we are driving ~11 hours to visit and stay with my friend's friend, whom I have never met. I'm just excited to have some time away from work and have some fun.
Since we're staying with someone I don't know I sort of feel like I should take her a little gift as a thank you. What do you ladies think? And what are your hostess gift ideas or go-tos?
if it's feasible to bring a bottle of wine from my area, i do that as a way to share our local culture. otherwise i can always make a quick stop and pick up something along the way.
also, not tangible, but you can take them out to dinner as a thank you for hosting.
I personally would stay away from edible / wine, since you don't know this person well you don't know how well it would be received. Ex. neither I nor T drink, wine would be wasted, I have a million and one food allergies and most are more uncommon.
I do like the idea of taking them to dinner or a gift card to a restaurant.
I like to give local spices (we have Penzeys close by) or a speciality olive oil or balsamic vinegar from a local boutique. But if you're not sure if they like to cook then that may be a risk. Hmmmm, you could get some scented hand soap from Bath & Body.
