Sorry, I couldn't resist. I also haven't been to the dentist in a couple of years, it's terrible. I did get X-rays when I was pregnant bc I had an issue with a root canal but they covered my belly with 2 lead jacket things
First off, they are dicks for not cleaning them without X-rays. I had my teeth cleaned while pg.
Second, call back! Or find a new dentist. I finally found a practice that doesn't yell or chastise and that has made a huge difference to me actually going.
Third, there are other options besides implants. A temporary flipper could work while you ttc.

I'm sorry:-( I had a tooth pulled when I was 18 weeks pregnant. They needed to do x-rays so I had to get a note from my OB saying is was ok and they completely covered me with the protective vests. Good luck!

This is what they did for me too. I was in the beginning of my third tri at the time though and I hear the first trimester is the worst time to go??
I'm really sorry. I'd call back and say you think there might be an emergency?? I can't imagine having to make you wait! I hope its nothing. FWIW, I haven't had a cleaning in years. My teeth are AWFUL. I have like a cracked middle/back upper tooth that happened when I just got pregnant this time. I haven't gone because I don't want to go in my first tri but it's been hell!

That is insane that they wouldn't do a cleaning without x-rays. My hygienist asked me if there was a possibility I could be pregnant in June and we were ttc so I told her yes. She said she would rather not do x-rays due to the first trimester being crucial and I was okay with that. I got pregnant in July and went back 6 months later for another routine cleaning and there were no issues with me being pregnant.
And tamb get to the dentist pleasseee! You gotta take care of those teef! That's right, teef. We have people call all the time asking about their teefies.

Oh man, that sucks. I went like 4 years during and after college with out going to the dentist. I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford the out of pocket cost. I hope it can be easily taken care of.
So, scary news time: I also had a baby tooth with no adult tooth. When it came out, I had to get a bridge, which is so old ladyish and a total PITA. My bone couldn't support an implant post because it was too narrow - something about how it never widened because no big adult tooth erupted through. I saw seven different dentists and oral surgeons about it, hoping for a different answer from someone, but they all agreed.
I'm clutching my pearls at all of you who haven't been to the dentist in years. Oral (hehe) health is important, ladies! You have these teeth for the rest of your life.
I hope they will see you soon, Tamb. Make it sound more urgent than it is to guarantee you get an appt.

If it makes you guys feel any better dental x-rays have very low radiation. I was still able to continue taking x-rays on patients even while pregnant. I just took some extra precautions.

You and me both! I'm actually surprised how many don't have routine cleanings. Prevention ladies!
The last time I had my teeth cleaned I was pregnant, I just didn't get x-rays. My mom cleans my teeth and I actually had to out my pregnant self before I was ready (eventual m/c, but still) I really need to go. I haven't been since only because I don't want to deal with the hassle of finding a dentist here, even though we obviously have to. My mommy is the BEST though.
Definitely get that checked out ASAP. Hoepfully it's something that can be remedied easily.
I went nearly 8 years between dentist visits. I went regularly until I was 18, then didn't go back until I was 26. So you are not alone! When I finally found a good practice and got all the work done I needed it was such a relief! Don't put it off, you will feel so much better.
You need to find a different practice. One who will get you in sooner. When you call, tell them youhavent been to the dentist in a long time and you need an exam right away.
I'm really surprised they wouldn't do a cleaning while pregnant! When I was pregnant with Henry my dentist and OB actually both recommended EXTRA cleanings while pregnant, since pregnancy can contribute to gingivitis and there is some relation between plaque and low birth weight. I went every 3 months! (I went my usual twice a year with E because I was lazy)
I'm sorry, though. I once went a few years without going due to college and post graduate laziness and I was soooo scared. Luckily, I found a very nice dentist who did not chastise me!
All i have to add to this is that my brother's two front bottom teeth are still his baby teeth. He's such a big, burly guy and then he has these teeny, tiny teeth.
Oh, and I'll likely have a tooth nightmare tonight.
Awww you aren't alone. I haven't had a cleaning since right before I got pregnant. I have an appointment in two weeks for the first time since then. LOL. I don't have much plaque buildup so I'm not that worried about it.
I would get that tooth situation looked at and sorted out if you need to before a baby gets in your belly. I like to have all that stuff ironed out before pregnancy, though so I am less stressed.

I'm sorry. I'm not even going to admit when the last time I had a cleaning was. I am humiliated honestly. Let's just say it was before I was pg with any of the kids... <hides head in shame> I have found a new dentist and they were nice over the phone. I am getting a note from my OB at my next appt to ok dental xrays when I go in for my cleaning because I have some shit going on in there as well. I just don't even want to think about how many cavities I have, but it hurts. That's a really long time to wait to get in if you have an issue- a run of the mill cleaning I can understand, but did you let them know you have a problem as well? I would do all I can to get it done asap.
I got cleanings while pregnant, I know you cannot get X-rays but you need to get a cleaning!
I would get in ASAP. Especially if you plan to be pregnant it's really important to have healthy gums and teeth.
Side note: I'm also missing 2 adult teeth, the ones next to my front teeth on top (incisors?). I was born without them and I had to get those baby teeth pulled.

You need to get your mouth(s) (I'm not saying you have more than one mouth, Tamb, even if you do have two sets of lips; I'm addressing all you ladies who want to get knocked up ASAP) in order before you get pregnant, guys. Infections (like gum disease) have been linked to pre-term birth, and you all know how jacked up pregnancy makes your gums and teeth.
I didn't have my teeth cleaned between 17 (when I moved out) and a month before Patsy and I getting married (22). I get them cleaned every six months now (yay insurance!) and got them cleaned twice while pregnant, the first one before I realized I was pregnant, so definitely 1st tri. Now that I think about it, I got x-rays then, too, but, I didn't know I was pregnant.
I had no dental care as a kid and I started going in 2007. I have spent thousands correcting my teeth. I have had cleanings (every 3-4 months) while pregnant, X-rays were done 2 days before my BFP with Kalvin, I've had a cavity filled in the third tri.

Stop it! Now I feel like shit. I haven't been to the dentist since I was about 20 weeks pregnant with V . I'm an idiot!!
