i'm afraid our refrigerator is on its last legs. all of our appliances have been showing signs of poor performance. so, i wanted to be proactive and be all set to just get the fridge by the time it finally dies.
so, please recommend your refigerator style (side by side, french door, etc.) and/or brand. i need to go and measure our current one's dimensions, but welcome all input, despite the lack of specificity as to size on my part. btw, it will need to be SS, as all of our appliances are.
I have a Samsung French door and I love love love it. (As much as one can love a fridge, lol). We bought a new in the box discontinued model at the sears outlet for 40% off. I think I paid around $1200.

Ours is a Whirlpool Gold french door. 25 cu ft. It does not have through the door water and ice. That wasn't a feature I wanted. There's an ice maker in the freezer, and a water dispenser inside the fridge. I love that it doesn't take up door space.

I'm going to sit at this table. I adore my Samsung French door.

We skipped this too, and there is so much storage in the doors. It's great.

This is me too. Although I didn't pick it out myself, it was picked out by the previous owner of my townhouse, I really love it.

I have an LG french door. We wanted water and ice in the door and I like that in the LG's it was in the door and didn't take up space in the fridge or door space. I also really like the water dispenser b/c its easy to fill pitchers, coffee makers and big items unlike on our old fridge ( where only a cup would fit).
WE got ours at the Sears outlet too for about $1300. The same model was at Home Depot and HH Greg for $1800.

I am glad that you had a good experience. My own was horrible. I will never ever shop at Sears again. Refrigerator failed. Freezer was full of fish. The smell was hidous. Sears couldn't get a service man out for three weeks. The service man "repaired" it and said it needed 24 hours to cool down. It didn't cool down. I called the store and the manager could not do a damn thing. They couldn't get another service man out to examine it for three more weeks. He did something else to it and said it needed 24 hours to cool down. It didn't cool down. They couldn't get someone out for another three weeks. At this point, I spent hours on the phone tracking down corporate in tears. I also posted on every consumer and newspaper website that I could think of....eventually I got through to someone who finally replaced the lemon of a refrigerator...Samsung French Door. It has worked for the last eight months (knock wood). I still get angry every time someone mentions Sears and I won't shop at Sears.
I also have a Samsung French door and we love it. I have the super fancy one with the computer on the door, it was only a couple hundred more than the one without it. It's actually really nice for checking the weather and sometimes I listen to Pandora on it while I cook. This model also has the extra drawer on top of the freezer, I didn't know if I'd like it or not but it's actually a really convenient place to store snacks and things.
One of the best features it that the ice/water maker is actually in the door (not just the dispenser part). The entire body of the fridge is open for storage and you don't lose much real estate with the ice/water dispenser. The third produce drawer, large deli drawer, shelves that slide and one that can be halved (front half slides under back half) to fit tall items when needed, and door that can hold 2 gallons of milk are great.
I don't love the bottom freezer, but I don't use it much so it's worth dealing with to have the awesome fridge.
I have a whirlpool french door without the ice/water dispenser in the door. It has a water dispenser inside, but I really despise that feature. I hate that you cant fill a glass of water up with one hand and that you have to actually open the door to get to it. It's so irritating that that feature alone makes me want a new refrigerator (even though this one works perfectly well otherwise).
Also, it's judt way too big for us. We will downsize when we remodel the kitchen next year (thinking the Samsung french door counter depth, though i haven't really decided at all and we've barely started researching).
My fridge just died last night, so I just bought one today. I got an LG french door ss with the water and ice dispenser. The LG has the slim line ice/water thing as pp mentioned, so you don't lose space. It's 30.7 cu. feet. We paid $2450 at Lowes before tax (cheaper than HD, because Lowe's is having 10% off appliances). It looks almost identical to the one posted above. Good idea about being proactive with researching a fridge. Lowe's only had that one in stock and it is getting delivered tomorrow. HD told us it would take until Fri to get the fridge delivered.
Does anyone have the extra drawer on their fridge? The one that opens to the outside? I saw one at lowes and I was surprised that I liked it.
We wanted one initially, but a friend bought it and didn't like it. He said that it has to take extra room from the fridge and freezer to have the full drawer, and he would rather have to open the fridge than lose the space. He didn't have kids, though, and the big draw I saw to that was kids helping themselves to food.
We opted for the large, wide deli drawer inside the fridge instead, and honestly with how DS eats, if he could get into the fridge himself there would be nothing left in his drawer at the end of each day and he would be a 60# 2-year-old.
We recently purchased this Maytag from Home Depot and really love it
We had a Kenmore Elite french door in our previous house which was actually an LG, but I wanted to go with something made in USA this time around, and one that also had the external deli drawer.
We've only had it a couple of months, but I think it's fantastic! We use the external deli drawer more than anything...which I think is probably much more efficient than our previous fridge, we always had to open both doors to get to the deli drawer and it was our most used drawer.

Our old fridge had a deli drawer and I thought it was annoying. You had to have both of the french doors fully open to open it. DH and I used to be firmly anti-water in the door, but now we have it at our rental and like it. DD1 likes to get herself water too which is nice.
