My parents have told us that they would like to purchase a stroller for us. YES!
So, I need some suggestions. Not crazy expensive, but something middle-of-the-road. I don't want to take advantage of their kindness.
-We live in HK, so we need something good in the city. Are swivel wheels the best, in this case?
-No need for a jogging-type stroller, but if it has other qualities we like, we're not opposed to one.
-We would like something that can grow with the child (option for lying flat, facing front, facing back, on an incline)
-We don't drive here and take the train everywhere so a system that works with a carseat is not necessary. We will only be using a carseat once (home from the hospital) and we will rent it.
-Something that folds up nicely and easily is a huge plus. We live in a small apartment and storage is a consideration. What am I forgetting?
I love our quinny speedi pack. It's one of the more reasonably priced full systems out here, and works great with our urvan public transport lifestyle. It is a jogging stroller, but that's not why we got it. It's easy to fold, adjustable height so tall and short people won't hurt their backs and comes standard with the bassinet, regular adjustable stroller seat and clips you can use for a car seat. It stears super easy, it has big rubber air tires, which is more.comfy for baby, and you can fixate the swivel front wheel, and it still steers amazingly easy.
I much much prefer it over the bugaboos, Phil and Ted or stokkes which are immensely popular here, and are double the price of the quinny.
I really like the Baby Jogger City Elite we picked up. It's tires are nice for a multitude of terrains, from mall walking to rough sidewalks/walking paths. It folds up quite compact, with a one handed pull of the strap. It does have an available infant seat adapter if you ever did need to use it with a seat, but otherwise, I feel like the seat has a wide variety of inclines, and goes up to 75 lbs, so we'll use it for a long time.
My only concern is that it is a little on the heavier side - not bad, but definitely more than an umbrella stroller.
I guess it doesn't have all of the options you listed - flat, forward facing, rear facing, etc. - I think the City Select does, though. That was my second choice.

We were looking for many of the same features you listed and settled on the UPPABaby Cruz. It's $450 plus extra for accessories so I'm not sure if that's reasonable for you.
(I was doing a reply earlier and got called away...)
I was going to suggest the City Select, which I've heard lots and lots of rave reviews about. Compact fold, multi positions, can have bassinette and/or car seat attached. Front and rear facing, can be made into a double if you have another lo in a couple of years.

Are you planning on a 2nd child in the somewhat future? If so, get a single that converts to a double like the City Select (all you need to do is buy the 2nd seat). We have a City Mini Gt now and now we need to buy a double because the kids will be so close in age. We got a City Select so I can use it as a single when I need it for just 1 kid and we're selling our Mini GT.
