It's getting SO old. He freaks out the second I start to change his diaper. Then he contorts himself so that his upper body is twisted around and facing the bed while I hold his legs so that the lower part of his body is facing up. It takes all my strength to just hold him still, so I have no arms left to change his diaper with. When I let go of one leg, he gets the upper hand, and the next thing I know he's off and running - often with dirty diaper in tow. ARRRRG!!! I wish I could read his mind and know what, exactly, is so traumatic about having your diaper changed!

Have you tried just using regular dipes and changing him standing up? When my mom suggested that, I blew her off. But when I tried it, it was like a whole new world opened up for us!

I do this when it's just pee, but I don't feel like I get him clean enough if it's poopy.

Daycare changes the toddlers standing up. They are taught to hold onto the door jam until the diaper change is finished. When DD walks out of her room and into the hallway, she sometimes stops at the door jam, holds onto it and spreads her legs. Its so cute.
Same thing happens at our house. I've tried to distract him with books or toys, but he's starting to lose interest. I'm beginning to come around to the stand-up diaper change, but for pee only. I've got to try these tricks for a poo diaper.

We've been doing standing-up diaper changes for some time now. My husband struggles with the technique but I find it easier at this point.

We call it "exercises". I'm not sure why, but I *think* she did that position when she saw me doing my stretches so when we did "exercies" she got into downward dog. Perfect for butt wiping.

I put my legs over their shoulders to pin them down with poop diapers. I try to get everything ready and do as much as I can with them standing up so the last thing I do is wipe and fasten with them down. Sometimes distraction works, sometimes nothing does.
I taught her (Edie) to bend over and touch the floor so I could wipe her butt when there was poop.
This gives me flashbacks of DS1 yelling "I'm ready" from the bathroom soon after he was potty trained and before he learned to wipe. I would walk in and he'd bending over, ass in the air. Oh the joys of motherhood.

I basically only change Colin standing up. He is really too strong for me. It took everything in me to hold him down for shots on Monday. I do think I don't always do the best job cleaning him when he's standing though and has pooped. Surely this will pass, right? I used to babysit my nephew when he was barely two and he was perfectly fine with diaper changes so I am hoping that it turns around and gets better!
Insanity over here too. I've been concerned about leaving marks on her before when I've been trying to hold her legs down during a change, freaks me out. Check HDBD to see a pass out pic after a holy changing table tantrum. I have changed her standing up before once or twice, but never with poop...may try these suggestions. Good luck to us all!
For a while I would use the strap on the changing pad and it was like magic. Like he felt it was permanent and he would just lay there and let me change him. That lasted all of a week maybe. Now I basically have to put him in the sleeper hold.

E runs away when I try this.
My only hope is to give her a toy that might be interesting enough to distract her while I change her, then cross my fingers she doesn't jam it into her poop.
ugh. I get worried that I am really going to hurt her! Not on purpose, but she is twisting her body and I am holding her legs and trying to pin her down and wipe the poop off... aargh its the worst.
Sometimes she is totally fine and just lies there, I'm not sure why sometimes she freaks out so much!
I do stand up diaper changes often but then they don't seem to be applied well enough, all uneven. And it won't work for poop as there would still be poop all over her if it's a soft one and if its a hard one the poop ball(s) will roll right out on the floor! aaaah
I feel like I am wrestling an alligator lately and really the only thing that would actually help is to tie her down but since I can't do that the battle continues.
