I would paint the cabinet a really fun color and change the hardware. SW Upward is a really nice color so I think you could do a bold sea green type color on the cabinet and it would look great.
I would open up a window in that wall between the sink and toilet, but wouldn't take it down completely. It offers a little privacy, and provides a place for a towel rod.
The vanity is screaming for hardware. I would paint a fun color, but a white would look fine too. I don't really find the counter to be offensive so I think the other updates will help a lot.
I think the texture needs to be evened out with new mud. I don't know how much effort I would put into it though. I think it's a hard and thankless job and hate DIYing it. If you repaint the walls in a flat paint without sheen the marks won't be as noticeable.
I can't tell from your pictures how bad the vinyl floor is. You could do stick tiles, but honestly I wouldn't bother and would just live with it. What's under the floor? I couldn't deal with my kitchen vinyl and ripped it up and painted the plywood underneath. You can do cool things with porch and floor paint and stencils. It lasted really well for several years (4 I think) before we started our renovation.

I agree with this. I think aqua/robins egg would also be a really pretty color for the vanity. As a temporary fix, if you really hate your flooring it would be really easy & inexpensive to do new peal & stick over your existing flooring. I wouldn't recommend this for a long term solution, but short term it could make a huge difference. Add some yellow or lemongrass accents so you sort of get this color combo.

Is there a shower in this bathroom? For me, flat would never do in a bathroom because I like really steamy showers.
I think there's a SW line that is flat but holds up well. SW Matte? Others have used it with success I believe.
The vinyl floor is not great looking (although not terrible, either), but it's in good shape, so it'll probably stay until the reno.
And yes, there is a shower/tub combo across from the toilet and the linen closet is behind the door across from the sink. I didn't really take pics of that side of the room because I have no issues with it.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I think a sea green color would look awesome on the cabinets, but I guarantee I'd never be able to talk DH into it. And I'll definitely have to look into the SW Matte paint. Are you referring to the Duration line, by any chance?
Yep, SW Duration Matte is the one I was thinking of. I haven't used it myself though. Maybe someone else who has can chime in.
Didn't you say that you wanted to reno this bathroom sometime down the road? If so, what would be the harm in painting a vanity that would be getting scrapped anyway? This is the perfect kind of project to experiment on since you have nothing to lose. Just a thought.
