We had his 15 month appointment today, and everything went good for the most part.
But he has to get his tongue clipped. I knew it had to be done eventually. Ever since he was a newborn i knew it needed to be done. But i was told to hold off, and not make it an issue right now. My Husband had to get his clipped when he was six, and he couldn't lick an ice cream cone. I wish i didn't second guess myself, and got it done right away but the important thing is we are doing it now. The Pedi thought his tongue might grow a little bit more Anyways, the pedi said its time and to do it right away. The tongue tie is pretty short, and his little tongue is heart shaped. So i'm calling the oral surgeon today. I know some dentists even do it, but i think i am going to go right to an oral surgeon. I want him to be able to stick his little tongue out. Which right now, he cannot. I was told that it is really quick, i just wish i would have done it sooner and went with my gut.

Aw, I'm sorry. Don't doubt yourself or your decision, it sounds like it was best to wait it out for awhile anyway. I hope he does well with the procedure!

Don't feel guilt! Olivia had hers done at 3 months and I guess it was harder than a newborn but still not bad. It took all of 2 minutes. I hope your experience is a good one too!
I hope it goes well. We saw an ENT when Caleb was a baby who said he might need it clipped at some point, but we're hoping it improves in its own. I am starting to wonder if it's causing him to not talk much.
Oh no, poor Lou! Luckily it sounds like a pretty simple procedure. Do you know what's involved? Does he have to be put under? Are there stitches? Pain meds? What is the recovery period?

He said he wouldn't be put under, and there is basically no recovery period!
I'm assuming i would just give Tylenol? I don't know for sure, i will keep you posted after we have a consultation with the surgeon!
My nephew got it done when he was 6. He had a speech delay and still has an impediment (but, some of that may be because he is on the spectrum. It's a very simple, fast procedure.
Poor little guy, luckily it sounds like it is a pretty quick procedure. You did what you thought was right for you and Lou, don't beat yourself up over it.

If it's anything like when they're newborns it will be NOTHING! Linus had his done in the hospital on day 2 and the dr. said he literally didn't make a peep. He was actually in there doing 4 of them and it was insane how quick he came back and was done with all of them. I do admit, I love Linus' little heart shaped tongue.
ETA: Just wanted to add that there was really no reason we did it as a newborn over later, so I don't think there's anything wrong with waiting! The dr. said it really didn't matter either way and that it was so minor no matter which you do. We just kind of said "ok, I guess do it now" so we didn't really put that much thought into it lol. If I would have felt better waiting I would have and not felt bad about it!
Nothing to to add, just want to reiterate that you didn't do anything wrong by waiting - you made the best decision you could at the time - and I've always heard that it's quick and easy! Good luck!
H had his tongue clipped at about 5 months by an ENT. His was a severe case & wasn't able to nurse because of it. so, we thought we were just going for a consult one day & the dr was ready & wanted to do it there in the office. It was far less traumatic than I was expecting. The Dr just pulled out tongue and clipped it with a fancy pair of scissors. H did cry for about 2-3 min but we stuck in a bottle right away & he was fine. H had pink drool for a day, but it wasn't gushing blood ever. Good luck little man!! Keep us posted!
