I'm still building mine and LO is 3 weeks. I mainly bought NB sizes so I didn't waste money if I decided CDing wasn't for us. Since we've started I've decided that I hate our pockets, so I'm going to try to sell some of them and get more AIOs.

So far I have 3 covers and 6 prefolds. So, yeah, not enough. But my shower is this weekend, and my state has a sales tax holiday this weekend that includes cloth diapers so I'm sure by this time next week I will have more.
I'm planning on doing covers and prefolds in NB sizes, then transitioning to BumGenius 4.0 OS once she fits in those.

OOOOO I should check to see if my state includes CD on tax free weekend....
Let me know if TX does! Although I buy mostly online, so then it might not matter.

I am reusing from my first child.
I have Kissaluvs and Thirsties fitteds for the nb stage. For covers, I have woolies,Thirsties (my fav), Rumperoos.
For after the nb stage I have, BGs, Goodmamas, Bububebe, a few WAHMs, Thisties fitteds (not really absorbant enough), Blueberries (love these) and more that I can't remember. I use the same cover brands as nb. I like fitteds the most but pockets are great for daycare adn when other people are changing lo. AIO take a bit too long to dry. I am not interested in prefolds.
For detergent I used Tide (regular) or Charlie's Soap.
I didn't get newborn CDs based on suggestions from friends that CD, because of the sheer number of diapers you go through with a newborn (and now that we're into AJ's second week I totally believe it, the kid is a shit machine so I'd be doing diaper laundry at least 1x/day). I've got a variety of AIOs and pockets to try out with him once he gets a little bigger and we'll see what works best-we'll be CDing part time at best b/c his sitter does disposables only so we'll see how it goes with the laundry and J and I working full time.
I'm still trying to figure out if I can feasibly cloth diaper, but prior to the move to NYC, there was no question that we would cloth diaper.
I've been told not to stock up too much before the baby is born, because you may find that certain diapers don't work/won't work/etc. Get a few of the different kinds, see what works and then go from there.

do you ever plan on selling any of your cd's? will using the tide make them sell at a lower price, since it technically voids the warranty on a lot of cds? i want to use tide because we have really hard water, but i also want to sell them after we're done having kids. this is a weird question, i know lol.
Yes, I will sell them if I can. I doubt most moms would care. I don't worry about the warranty as having clean diapers is a bigger concern. Tide really gave me no issues while some of the other detergents did (and I use natural or homemade detergent for everything, so buying Tide stinks-but it really works!)
I did not like gdiapers. They were so messy and impractical. I don't advise anyone to buy a bunch of them. Just try one or so versus traditional cloth. You will probably find traditional cloth to be easier.
thejackpot, it won't let me quote you again. anyway, can i ask what natural/homemade detergent you use for everything else? if i'm going to use tide for diapers (which sounds like the best idea for our water) i want to wash the baby's clothes (and most likely ours) in something more eco-friendly. any recs/recipes? thank you so much!
I use this recipe- some people have issues because it uses borax but I don't. I have used it for nearly 5 yrs with no problems and my dh has uniforms that get filthy.
We bought a few newborns (lil joeys and grovias) but he outgrew them way too fast (he was 99% at two month appointment). We started buying some OS pockets before he was born and then I added to the stash for a few months. He was in those for two years, but we have recently switched to disposables because he pees too much. He will be PT soon (fingers crossed) so it didn't seem worthwhile to spend a whole lot of money on more CDs.
For this next one I would like to do some prefolds/covers in the beginning and then switch to the OS pockets. If this baby is smaller I will try to use the lil joeys and grovia newborn ones we have as well. I might get some bigger pockets as well so we don't run into the same problem we have now.
