Today is my first day of constant nausea and the only thing that sounded good was a coke and turkey sandwich from Jimmy Johns (not heated up, because the thought of that makes me want to hurl) so that's what I had for lunch. Make me feel better that some of you are rule breakers too?
Ha, I've been eating lunchmeat and sushi the whole time. Plus, this whole week, I have spent all my free time priming and painting baby girl's bedroom. I'm inhaling all those evil fumes and going up and down a ladder constantly. Pregnancy rules can suck it. I have shit to get done and delicious food to eat.

Agree with ash that with 1st trimester/nausea, there are no rules. Eat what you can stomach. Even if its nothing but cereal or turkey sandwiches or whatever.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that heated up lunch meat sounds disgusting! YUCK. And that's not even the MS talking.
I've had runny eggs, sushi (raw!), goat cheese, brie, prosciutto....I've only had tiny sips of H's wine/cocktails but we're going to a wedding in a few weeks and I definitely plan to have a small glass of champagne. Rules schmules!
First tri peeps, I can't recommend this book hard enough, The Panic-Free Pregnancy. I'm not particularly type A, but it really helped give me the confidence to make decisions.
I read this and really liked it! Non heated deli meat was one of the few things he said not to eat though, but I figured not feeling like shit outweighed the small risk.

I've been eating Caesar salads like whoa. Baby still has one head (I get monthly ultrasounds, so I know, haha).
I eat soft (pasteurized) cheeses, I drink (decaf) coffee with Splenda every morning, and I've had some booze. And I intend to have a full glass of wine at SIL's wedding on Saturday. Too bad I can't get completely wasted because this wedding weekend is going to be a total dramafest.
This past week I had some wine.......AND a Jimmy Johns sandwich , not toasted! I'm finding my self control gets worse as I get further and further along.

I was at a wedding last weekend, and skipped the champagne toast, not because of the champagne, but I was afraid of being judged :N:
Once I got the BPF and the MS kicked in, I had to have hotdogs. And not just any kind, they had to be a particular kind of turkey hot dog that I scoured 4 grocery stores and 2 Trader Joes before I found them.
Then we went to Hawaii where I decided that I was going to be a vegetarian because seafood was making me hurl. There was "Big Island goat cheese" everywhere and I love goat cheese. So I ate it. And then I came home to my first MFM appointment and got a lecture on goat cheese.
Let's not talk about the week-long trade show partying, the "I'm going to drink a lot at this wedding" Friday and the endless coffee to battle the constant tiredness before it dawned on me one day that I should look up when my next period was scheduled to happen. Oh it was supposed to be last week. I've never been late. Uhhhh.
My college roommate is an OB and she herself said she ate blue cheese, goat cheese, and tuna and called herself the worst doctor ever. Her kids are fine. That made me feel so much better.

That's the main reason I usually abstain too. I didn't drink a single sip during my first two pregnancies because of it.
This time, though, I had a glass of prosecco at my cousin's bridal shower a couple weekends ago AND I tried sips of every beer H had while we were in Germany last month. Living on the edge over here! lol.
Oh, and sent reminded me: my second pregnancy, I didn't even realize I was pregnant until I was 6.5 weeks. It turned out I was three weeks pregnant when I got wasted at my sister's bachelorette party (after not drinking like that since college), four weeks pregnant when I had my wisdom teeth out under anesthesia, and six weeks pregnant while drinking champagne at my sister's wedding. Good times.

Yeah, I eat whatever I want. And drink plenty of diet coke. My baby is doing great so far. I have too many other things to stress about, I don't have the energy to worry about how feta could kill my baby too.

Soft cheese? Yes, please! Half glass of wine now and again? Sure. Lunch meat? Yep. Hot dogs. Yum. Hell, I didn't even know "soft serve" ice cream was supposed to be a no-no until like, a month ago. I ate ice cream a lot when I was in first tri and nauseous. Eat what you can keep down. I think you're okay.

I'm hoping there was humor mixed in with seriousness here, because I totally LOL'd.
I've eaten everything you're not supposed to at least once (except sushi because it currently grosses me out), either accidentally or on purpose, and everything with baby is fine so far. I haven't eaten things without guilt, of course, but sometimes I can't say no to a Turkey Tom from JJ's.
You probably know this, but the concern with deli meat is listeria, which comes from improper storage, giving bacteria a chance to grow. JJ's slices their meat fresh every morning and keeps it covered throughout the day, so I trust them enough to eat there. Besides, in truth, you're at more of a listeria risk from bagged salad and fruits and veggies - actually, bacteria in bagged salad is a huge problem right now. The cheese concern is that it's not pasteurized, but unpasteurized cheese cannot be sold in the U.S. unless it's been aged for at least sixty days (with the theory that after sixty days, the natural acids and salts in the cheese prevent bacteria from growing)... so unless you're importing or buying specialty cheese, you're fine there, too.
I think it's ultimately about what you're comfortable with. Anecdotal, but my SIL works at a fertility clinic, and their doctors actively work to dispel many food myths because they think they're "scare tactics".
