So, I did a bunch of exchanges yesterday from my shower for items that I needed more than the items I rec'd. i.e., returned excess of clothes and certain things that are not my taste for items like a car seat adapter for DH's car, bottles, that kind of thing. And I'm re-evaluating what I decided to keep today to be sure it's the right size, that it WILL get used, etc.
Some things I could use opinions on:
-How many swaddlers do I really need? I currently have: x8 aden+anais swaddling blankets that I expect to use for a variety of things, x3 swaddleme swaddlers, x2 zip up swaddlers, and x1 miracle swaddler thingy. It seems...excessive but what do I know??
-How many sleep sacks? I have x2 regular ones, and x1 with "angel wings"
-How many bottles of different sizes? I have x4 of the larger oz, and x2 of the smaller oz
-How many receiving blankets/regular blankets? I have x1 Little Giraffe, and x1 aden+anais dream blanket, and x1 hand knit blanket I got from my BBF's grandma.
I feel like I have too many swaddlers and not enough blankets...idk, I had intended to use the aden+anais swaddlers as kind of blankets too, but they wouldn't work for tummy time I don't think. So if anyone has ideas about where adjustments might be made, I'd appreciate it. Especially on the swaddlers vs blanket ratio
This is my first pregnancy, so take my thoughts with a huge grain of salt. I agree the the number of swaddlers seems excessive. I would definitely get more bottles, especially more of the smaller ones to start out with. You don't want to be washing bottles all the time.

I'm getting 8 of the A+A swaddle blankets because they have many other uses besides swaddling, but note that I live in an apartment with a shared laundry in the complex so a reason for that large number is to avoid having to do laundry more often than I need to - you might want to adjust if your laundry situation is more convenient. I'm also getting one Miracle Blanket.
I'm getting two sleepsacks to start out with.
I've been gifted several different brands of bottles already so I have a good variety and amount in case Baby is picky - they are all 5 oz. If I need bigger than that, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it but I am planning to breastfeed so I may not need bigger bottles for a while.
I've been gifted a ton of regular blankets so I'm not really keeping track - I just know I don't need to buy any myself.
I have a massive crapload of receiving blankets, but am planning to use those for everything (burp cloth, towel, on top of the changing pad cover to avpid washing that 3 times a day). 2 swaddlers and 1 swaddle/sleepsack mix thingie, which is morethan enough for me as overhere they discourage swaddling unless you have a specifically teririble sleeper. I do still want to get a couple of muslin blankets as they're supposed to be awesome to use instead of regular (baby) towels and I plan on getting or making 2 big warm blankets.
All except for the massive piles of receiving blankets arethe max or standard amounts my PP doula adviced. I guess I'll figure out what more I might need when LO is here.
I agree that you have too many swaddlers. My ds did not like being swaddled so they were a waste- but it depends on the baby. I still couldn't imagine needing more than 5. You need more receiving blankets, those are the best. You can do so many things with them: block your boobs if you are breast feeding, block the sun in the car, cover the stroller or car seat, clean up spills, lay on changing areas etc.
We went thru...1-3 swaddles a day, depending on spit-ups and blow outs. We also had 3 of the swaddle-me sleep sacks that we would use at night (hella easier to go zip-zop-zoop after those nighttime feedings than struggle with a swaddle blanket at 3am). So, to me, what you currently have doesn't seem excessive.
Blankets - I'd get a few more. We had more than we needed, but 3 seems like too few.
Definitely get more of the smaller bottles.
Also, if you plan to BF, keep in mind that RARELY does an infant take more than 4oz at a feeding. KellyMom has a good calculator for those moms who need to bottle-feed breastmilk. The composition of your breast milk changes as they grow to provide the correct amount of nutrients in the same amount of ounces (no, really. I'd source it but I don't want to google it at work). B was EBF until 14 months and I never used anything larger than a 4oz bottle.
We have 3 of the small swaddle mes, and maybe three of the larger ones too? I forget. Either way, we use the swaddle mes more often at night, because we can put AJ in a short sleeved onesie and a swaddleme and he's comfortable all night...as long as his hands are swaddled up by his face (with baby mittens on). He inevitably works at least one arm at some point, because he's a f'ing Houdini.
We have 4 of the a&a muslin blankets/swaddles...I really like them b/c they're big and multipurpose. We use them as swaddles, I use them as a BFing cover if needed, sometimes they're a good quick blanket to throw over AJ's legs in the carseat, etc. They can be tough to figure out as swaddles though b/c they're so big, I wasn't able to get the hang of it until a friend showed me and then it all made sense.
we also have a few sleep sacks but haven't started using them yet.
I would get more receiving blankets and more bottles. In addition to the 4 a&a, we have four other blankets and a blanket we stole from the hospital (because the first day we were home, that was the only thing we knew how to swaddle AJ in), plus a couple of quilts and another heavier blanket that we plan on using when as carseat blankets when its cold out. For bottles, we got starter sets of a couple of brands (Tommee Tippee and Born Free, I think) and we'll see how it goes with them-if AJ doesn't do well with them, we'll try others.
I would say you have enough sleep sacks - we had 2 of each age group and it really was plenty, though we only used them at night. One in use, one in wash/spare.
I don't think we had many more bottles than you have and we bottle fed our dd. You move on to bigger bottles soon enough. They don't stay sterile after you open the steriliser. We prepped 6 in the evening for the next day.
Swaddles are not popular over here - babies generally aren't swaddled.
Ok cool, thanks guys, I returned some of the swaddlers and a sleepsack to stock up on a couple of boxes of diapers, and I will get more bottles. I don't know if I will ebf, but my intention was to pump some even though I'll be SAHM so DH can help/be involved with feedings. I think that's important to me. We'll see.
I am going to get another a+a dream blanket, I got another Little Giraffe because it was on sale at Nordy's, and I will get some basic little plain blankies too.
