We had two white rocking chairs on our front porch. They were 7 years old or so and in excellent condition but filthy from exposure to the elements. For whatever reason, all the cleaning in the world couldn't turn them white again, and they were a sort of gray.
We sanded them down and I repainted them black. I also gave them colorful pillows. We were hoping not only that the new black paint would repel (or cover up) dirt, but would be an interesting pop of color against our white house.
So I proudly took my finished products to the front porch, ran down to the sidewalk to see how they looked, and...saw almost no difference. It turns out that they really aren't big enough to have much impact. I doubt anyone driving by would even notice. Boo.
It can be frustrating. My house is far enough away from the road that even large pops of color seem miniscule at the road. I started concentrating my efforts at the back of the house where we spend most of our time. That way I can enjoy my efforts instead of having to squint to see them as I drive by.
Yeah, Our house is so far off the road that I give up on "pops" of color. It just really doesn't matter that much.
I had my front doors changed from red to black and I thought I'd notice the difference more/make the house standout. Yeah, not really. The red was better for that. However, I will say a month in I drive by and say, 'Hmmm..that's classy."
You like it, who cares. Not everything has stand out all the time.
