My 11 year old cat started peeing on the carpet this weekend. She's never peed outside of the litterbox before. I can't get into the vet until tomorrow. I put the litterbox where she was peeing and she used it twice, but then went back to the carpet again. I have googled, obviously, but other than the vet visit, and using natures miracle to clean, didn't get much out of it. Any other advice? TIA

It sounds like she has a urinary tract infection or an issue with her kidneys. I would get to the vet ASAP, get an inexpensive black light and soak anywhere she's peed in Nature's Miracle. When our cat was sick and had diarrea everywhere we confined him to a bathroom to make it easy to clean. He didn't like it, but it worked out fine while he saw sick.
I just went through this with my 9 year old male cat.
Definitely get in to the vet, but if there are no physical causes for it, here's what worked for me:
-Get 1 additional litter box
-Clean out litter boxes and use Cat Attract litter
-Feliway diffusers in different parts of the house and Feliway spray on areas where she spends most of her time (in my case, on the bed and on my couch)
-Make sure you have cleaned the carpet WELL. Soak the carpet with Nature's Miracle, let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes. Then soak it up by standing on paper towels until it's mostly dry. Repeat process until there is no color (yellow) coming out of the carpet. (if it's an area rug, consider having it professionally cleaned and make sure that the urine hasn't soaked through to the floor underneath)
thanks! I had already used my steam cleaner on the spots. I sprayed them with natures miracle today and bought Cat Attract litter. Holy expensive! My regular litter was $7, Cat Attract is $33! I hope it works.
