DH and I are staying in Naragansett RI for a night for our anniversary in Sept. Our kids are staying for a night with family in SE Ma. Would you do Block Island for a day? Stay in the area? Go to Newport?
We tried to get a hotel in Newport, but they were either booked or had 2 night min.
You could do Block Island as a day trip. I'd probably prefer to do Newport if you haven't already been there, but I'm kind of lazy and don't like hassle.
I grew up in town and there is stuff to do, mostly go to the beach, but I would do a day trip to Block Island or Newport. The ferry is quick to block and you can rent bikes and do a ton with one day. Town is right there and you can bike the whole island in a day. Newport is great to and only about 20 minutes away. Wickford and Jamestown are also great spots to check out.
Do you have dinner plans yet for Narragansett? Let me know of you need recommendations!
Block island is great if you like biking and hiking (sort of hiking... mostly descending and climbing stairs). It's a little town but biking the roads have great views and walking down to the beach under the bluffs is incredible. You'll be physically tired by the end, though.
Newport is a bigger town with lots of shops and restaurants. Touring one or two of the mansions and doing the Cliff Walk is a good time. It's less physical exertion, less nature-y, more people. I hate Newport over Labor Day weekend because it's freaking packed, but if your anniversary is later in the month, the crowds aren't nearly as big on non-holiday weekends.
I wouldn't stay in Narragansett the whole time unless you really like sitting on the beach. I think Newport and Block Island are better bets. There are some nice restuarants in Narragansett, though, if you wanted to do dinner nearer the hotel.
Thank you everyone!! It will be the 20- 21st. I like biking, but am a lot faster than DH. Maybe we can day trip that sat to BI, walk around Newport Sun?
PreppyHW , would love some dinner reccs if you have them!!

My #1 favorite is Matunuck Oyster Bar, fresh local seafood that is out of this world. They don't take reservations and get pretty busy but they have a new outdoor bar on the water to hang out at while you wait. Trio in Narragansett Pier is great and they have a nice patio. Crazy Burger is a more casual place with a really unique menu that is amazing as well. Have a great time!
