We got our dining room set for free. It's very traditional and I loved it. The table broke so we currently have a rectangular Ikea one which is fine since it's covered all the time. We have 6 original chairs, all armless so no chairs at each end of the table.
We'd never be able to match the design on the chair so I think we should get a Parsons style chair for each end. MH is totally against that for some unknown reason.
What would you do? If you have any suggestions that include pictures, that would be great too!
I have found that when H is resistant to a decorating idea, it's usually because it's too different and he can't imagine how it will look. So I build a photo gallery of examples of whatever my current idea is and show him how it looks. 9/10 times he comes around and admits that it will look good in our house.
That's what I'm doing! I've sent him a bunch of photos to show what I'm envisioning and am trying to explain that trying to match what we have will be pretty impossible so let's go with something contrasting. Now I'm sending him crazy colored Chippendale style chairs!
A few years ago Ethan Allen catalog was showing their Queen Anne style dining sets with an upholstered traditional chair at each end- it looked fabulous; I wanted to do it but was put off by the cost. The fabric added some softness and pattern to the room.
Thank you. That's actually one of the photos that I sent to him. We went to the restore today and found two chairs that are complimentary. still traditional but they work.
